Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers

About This Item

Straight-up raw vintage! Closely modeled after an outstanding vintage P.A.F. set from our own collection. That sweet tone was just too good to keep to ourselves!

True vintage sound.
We christened these exceptional humbuckers in tribute to the famous Kalamazoo address where the holy grail of pickups, the legendary P.A.F. (Patent Applied For), was born.

Just like the originals, the slug coil has more windings than the polepiece coil, and both coils are unpotted. Old P.A.F.s weren't made in separate neck and bridge-position models, and their DC resistance varied from 7-9K ohms. We give you a choice: Parsons Street neck-position pickups are wound to mid 7K, and bridge-position models to low 8K.

Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers sweet vintage tone was crafted to vintage P.A.F. specifications:
• Nickel-silver cover for tone transparency
• Original 1.97" (50.04mm) polepiece spacing
• Plain enameled AWG42 coil wire
• Black paper coil tape
• Wood spacer
• Choice of Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 magnet
• Nickel-silver baseplate
• Single-conductor braided shield output wire

Your choice of original-style magnets:
• Alnico 2 for warm tone with smooth highs and a soft bottom response.
• Alnico 5 produces a clear tone with more pronounced highs and a tighter low end.
(Original P.A.F.s contained Alnico 2, 3 and 5 magnets at various times.)

Neck models: mid 7K ohms
Bridge models: low 8K ohms

Swapping pickup covers on a rare lefty Lucille

Making new pickups look old: Brand new pickups looked too shiny in this guitar that had seen a lot of gigs. So Dan Erlewine opened the old pickup and put its cover on the new one. This meant cutting the solder joint and resoldering.

Wiring a humbucker to get two sounds

Erick Coleman shows how he modified a Parsons Street Humbucker, turning it into a switchable single-coil/humbucker combination.

Parson Street Humbuckers

I replaced a set of Epiphone humbuckers with a set of these; and they sound much like a Gibson 57 Classic+. Very balanced tone. Great clean, and they " bite" hard when pushed!

I played 'All The Love I Miss' off the Beano album & it copied Clapton's tone close to perfectly.

I recommend these heartily.

Bought a pair of A2s for a HH Strat. Lovely, warm, clear tones from the neck, and nice usable bite from the bridge, Spectacular value!

Parson Street Pickups

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I installed a pair of Parson Street pickups on a Ephiphone Sheridan 2 because the stock pickups were a little muddy. The Parsons Streets added clarity and warmth. I got alnico 2 magnets in both the neck and bridge. Now when playing thru my Roland 40 cube amp I have a warm and clear jazz tone that is not overly bright.

It lived up to my expectations. In a word: G R E A T (!)

I can't believe how inexpensive these pickups are, but I'm not complaining; thank you. They really deliver the vintage Les Paul tone that I have heard on recordings. I opted for the alnico V magnets, in both the neck and bridge positions. I use them in a Tokai LS110 Les Paul style guitar. The original pickups were good (alnico II magnets, wax potted, vintage ohm neck pickup and a higher gain bridge pickup), but I prefer the clarity and lower/vintage-type output of the Parson Street Humbuckers. I use a VOX AC4HW1 with Celestion Blue alnico, so it complements my amp nicely. It is really refreshing to find an economical, vintage-spec pickup, compared to the (grossly)overpriced ones out there. Thanks guys; you hit a grand slam in my book.

I actually have sustain now!

Put these pickups in my old SG as I was tired of the pickups that just bludgeoned the front end of the amp with output...these are sweet, raw and all points in between. By far the best vintage style pickup for the money. If this is what they sounded like back in the day, no wonder all the greats were drawn to them.

These pickups are amazing as most of the reviews already state.I chose to use 2 alnico 5's in a kit I put together and man I'm glad I did.Together with a set of matching value, quality pots and caps and all I can say is.... pure PAF!!! Handmade quality with a price tag that can't be beat.

Amazing tone...even if they were twice as much.

I have used some expensive pickups, but these are as good as any I have ever heard, especially if you are going for the classic PAF sound. As far as I'm concerned, this is the BEST humbucker you can buy for this money...better than some that cost more than $100.

Hard to beat.  The price makes it a slam dunk.

I put these pickups on a restoration project of a 1970 Gibson Les Paul. The project was a full-on restore turning this forgotten relic into a lightly used “blacktop custom” with the black plastic parts. I used the A5 neck/A2 bridge which just sings. It has a more well-rounded tone and response versus the Gibson RI PAFs on my custom shop 1960 ES 335.
