Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers

About This Item

The HOT versions of our classic Golden Age Humbuckers! The same Alnico 5 magnets, but overwound to 12K ohms for high output, powerful midrange and driving tone.

The AWG43 coils are wound on fabric-taped bobbins, mounted on a brass baseplate, and wax-potted for microphonic suppression.

The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, enabling versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options. 12K ohms. Bridge model polepieces have 2.015" spread; neck models have 1.97" spread. Mounting screws, springs and wiring diagrams included.

Inspired by great guitar pickups of the 50s!

  • Alnico 5 magnets (aluminum/nickel/cobalt) as used in the originals, for classic tone.
  • Vintage dimensions for easy installation in standard pickguards and bodies.
  • Wax-potted for microphonic suppression.
  • Wiring diagrams included with each pickup.

Length: 2.75" (69.85mm)
Width: 1.5" (38.10mm)
Height including mounting tabs, bridge pickup: .840" (21.34mm)

Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Screws too long for a strat cavity

By

Verified Buyer

Just a word of caution: if you're planning to put one of these pups in a strat, the pickup height screws that are included are too long to allow the pickup to fit in the strat cavity. They are 1 1/4 inch long. You're going to need a 1 inch screw. These screws have extra fine threads, and that means you're probably not going to be able to run right out to the hardware store and find the screws you need. You can do what I did: get out the hack saw. If you go that route, cut the screws after the pickups are already installed in the pickguard, because you'll probably mess up the threads. It would be nice if stewmac sold these screws in 1 inch lengths.

Sounds amazing in my '61 reissue SG custom. Clear distinct voicing with plenty of punch and midrange.

OMG!!!

I recently bought a used Epiphone G310 to "Frankenstein/modify. I don't want to spend a lot of money and decided to try the Golden Age pickup. It is amazing!!! I have owned/own Duncan's and Dimazzio's and they are great pickups, but this one is sooo much better! And at half the price. I bought the hot, chrome,4 wire and a coil tap and I can't put the guitar down. The chrome is beautiful and the sound is fantastic! I will definitely be buying more!

What a value!

I've always used after market pickups from the big D since the 70's. Never felt I had reason to change... Until or other guitarist who have a limited budget wanted picks in her epiphone LP while her gibson LP was out for new frets. After all the great reviews I read (until I got tired of reading) I knew these were worth a try. I installed using one of the wiring kits and WOW. She is not only happy, she is "so so happy!" thanks StewMac

Great pickup, especially for the money!

Used this bridge pickup to replace a PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd factory pickup. Original was too hot for my taste. This was a much better balance for my purposes, although I'm sure the standard Golden Age would have done the job.

Replaced the stock humbuckers in a ESP with the Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers and the difference was amazing. I plan to replace the pickups on my Epiphone Les Paul with them real soon.

Great Pickup

First Stew Mac Pickup for me. I am floored, sounds amazing in the Bridge of a Stratocaster. Great tone, clear tone , a lot of harmonics. I share the middle tone pot with this humbucker which gives a huge tonal variety. Worth a lot more than it's price!!

Great pickups

I've learned the hard way about expensive designer pickups. Stewmac golden age and parsons street pickups are better than the stock pickups in my gibson sg (490r 490t) and they are also better than the gibson angus young pickups I replaced the stock ones with, sorry angus. I would have saved a lot of money if I had just bought these first but I got snobby. These pickups sound great

I normally use Rio Grande BBQ humbucker in my bridge spot. But this pick up sounds as good and has a coil tap. Will buy another for my new build I'm working on. Love StewMac.

Killer tone for HSS Strat

By

Always wanted to find a right combination for a split coiled bucker in an HSS setup but never felt they sounded this and anemic UNTIL I decided to order one of these Hot buckers from stew mac. The Neck amd middle singles I ordered from Kerry at onamac windery which measured 6.3K ohm, man does my MIM speak with gratifying authority now. I've realized the humbucker in fact needs to be Twice the output of your singles. My single coils were 6.3 amd hot Humbucker read 12.6 which was Exactly double of the singles and man does it sound great now. I wired it master tone, first tone pot I wired to now master tone and 2nd tone pot I changed to a "No Load" Blender pot which allows blend in the neck into bridge in position 1, pos 2 is now split coil from bucker into middle pup. Now also something else that I just love, pos 5 I can have neck only or "Blend" in a little or a lot of bridge into neck. Nicest tone wiring for Strat I've used to date and even better if this stew mac hot bucker for splitting coils. Just remember the bucker needs to be as close to double output to the singles. Tnx SM amd best of luck to anyone who tries this blend pot wiring. Ernie from Canada
