Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers with Restoration Covers

CLOSEOUT! Specs on our Golden Age® Parsons Street™ humbuckers are straight-up raw vintage, from their unpotted coils with original-style enameled wire, to their correct-shape nickel silver covers.

With Golden Age® Humbuckers, we nailed the vintage sound.
Now they look original, too.

You can get 'em with our hand-applied Restoration finish, the warm well-played look of hundreds of gigs and countless jams.

Named for the famous Kalamazoo address where the legendary P.A.F. pickup was born, Golden Age® Parsons Street™ humbuckers are closely modeled after a sweet-sounding vintage P.A.F. set from our own collection. Their specs are straight-up raw vintage, from their unpotted coils with original-style enameled wire, to their correct-shape nickel silver covers.

Our distressed "pawn shop" finish is applied by hand to each cover here in our Ohio shop.

Golden Age Parsons Street Humbuckers sweet vintage tone was crafted to vintage P.A.F. specifications:
• Nickel silver cover for tone transparency
• Original 1.97" (50.04mm) polepiece spacing
• Plain enameled AWG42 coil wire
• Black paper coil tape
• Wood spacer
• Choice of Alnico 2 or Alnico 5 magnet
• Nickel-silver baseplate
• Single-conductor braided shield output wire

Your choice of original-style magnets:
• Alnico 2 for warm tone with smooth highs and a soft bottom response.
• Alnico 5 produces a clear tone with more pronounced highs and a tighter low end.
(Original P.A.F.s contained Alnico 2, 3 and 5 magnets at various times.)

Neck models: mid 7K ohms
Bridge models: low 8K ohms

Just like the originals, the slug coil has more windings than the polepiece coil, and both coils are unpotted. Old P.A.F.s weren't made in separate neck and bridge-position models, and their DC resistance varied from 7-9K ohms. We give you a choice: Parsons Street neck-position pickups are wound to mid 7K, and bridge-position models to low 8K.

What a wicked Fernandes!!

(Customer's Reviews)

My customer was really getting bored with the "sustainer" circuit in his Fernandes and asked me what could be done. He wanted pickups that could do it all. I was reading the Epiphone forum about the Parson's Street pickups being excellent for replacements in several Epiphone models. The Fernandes had two humbuckers so I changed out the sustainer and pickups for the Parson's Street pickups, Fender OE 500k pots and a Russian pio(paper in oil) tone cap. The setup uses a single volume and a single tone control and a three way pickup selector switch. The end result was a guitar with incredible range of tone and high output! The customer is very happy. I believe this is the best sounding Fernandes there is, at least the best sounding I've ever heard. Now there's this Epi Les Paul hanging on a hook in my shop.........

Vintage sound

(Customer's Reviews)

Let's get it straight. It says vintage on the ad copy. Vintage means underwound, clean sounding, low gain pickups. Like the ones on old original guitars. The ones we crave and can pay ridiculous prices for. Plug into your Class A valve amp, 10 watts will do, At low vol settings, they are clean sounding, full of 'pock' twang and sweetness. You can sound like you are playing a loud acoustic. That is, until you turn up the vol. Hit the preamp hard with a boost pedal, like in the old days, an LPB1 would do it, and you get crunch. AC/DC on tap. Want Clapton in his humbucker phase? Then turn up the amp volume to 11. Warn the neighbours first. Then you see what the fuss is about, once the power amp is cooking. You need the clean guitar signal to get the top end sparkle, before it gets to the effects. I installed mine on a '59 LP clone I was building. They did what they said. Vintage. The kind of tone you get lost in turning those four knobs to find the sweet spot. A bit of 'verb....and you are getting that 3d chimey sound available (you thought) only from boutique pickups. Face it, a pickup up is a bobbin, 7000 turns of wire, some magnets, some metal bits and wires. Boutique makers sprinkle theirs with unicorn horn dust and tears from the faeries at the bottom of the garden. And you pay a big price for it. I'll stick with these, despite the 'experts' on the net forums, who, having never actually used them, claim that these are not worthy, citing the very attributes that make them vintage, as faults! I have installed 3 sets of alnico 5 PS vintage pickups on guitars I have built. Anything else, costing are paying for the voodoo, mojo, and the name. No sensible person would be tricked by that. I wasn't. Love 'em. Thanks StewMac for a great product and the service you offer us small time builders.

Exactly right

(Customer's Reviews)

I replaced all the electronics in my Epiphone Dot -- a finicky job to be sure, but it's turned out to be absolutely worth it. The Parsons St. humbuckers sound just like what I wanted... so much more alive and dynamic than the muddy stock pickups. I put in the Alnico 5/2 combo, and it sounds sweet now!
