Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Sounds great

I bought an overwound bridge pickup to replace a factory pickup in an early 90's Washburn guitar. I wired it for humbucker in position 5 and parallel coil-split in position 4. I love how well this cuts through the mix. This pickup sounds very hot and switching form a standard output single coil in the middle position to this humbucker brings a very noticeable change in volume and tone.

Whatever you make of them!

Really a great pickup for the price - these pickups are a solid vintage hot humbucker sound. As a luthier you don't want to stop there - use the 4-conductor setup to offer some coil cutting and series/parallel switching and nobody will be asking about who made your pickups but how you got so many sounds out of those humbuckers!
Oh, yeah, and with a little mortising press and drill press magic you can reskin them to be all artisan and stuff...

Very Nice Pickup

I recently purchased a Golden Age Overwound pickupe for my Ibanez AR720FM. I bought the guitar new a few months ago. I didn't really care for the stock Super-80 "Flying Finger" pickup in the bridge position. First I installed a SD Pearly Gates pickup as a replacement; it was ok but the guitar was still missing the punch and tone I was looking for. I've been playing guitar for almost 50 years and I know tone is a subjective topic. I do like the sound and tone of the Golden Age Overwound bridge pickup now installed in my Ibanez Artist guitar. It was well worth the investment, and this one is a keeper.

Pro tone

I put this in my first project guitar and it's the best sounding pickup I've ever owned. I like to use a boss super overdrive pedal as a boost and I normally get more string noise than I'd like but this pickup somehow is very clear and doesn't pickup to much string noise. All you need is this pickup. It's pleasing to the ear, simple as that. Nothing harsh or muddy about it.

Very Impressed!!!

I installed this pickup in the bridge position of a Les Paul, replacing the stock 57 Classic. What a difference! These are very powerful and articulate pickups. Paired with the normal Golden Age humbucker in the neck position, the sound and volume are very even and much better than stock Gibson pickups.

I have Les Pauls with everything from stock pickups to Bare Knuckle Painkillers and DiMarzio's, and honestly, these sound the best of all. A great pickup at any price!

great buy after all

Took a chance on buying the 12k bridge and golden age neck normal version. They went into a les paul type esp which had a 24 3/4 scale and had alpha 500k pots custom wired and they sound great. plenty of grind with sweetness is the best description. I was expecting at least decent and got more than that. the neck pickup is really sweet as well. excellent job guys you should be proud!

LOVE IT!

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Due to the Overwounding..it produces more bass and mids and less highs. IT has a hotter output that does change your guitar tone a lot in a good way.

If you want a 'ballsy' tone..get this. IT works well with 2 of my Guitars...a TELE copy and Ibanez GIo.

When Played Clean .. it has a lot of dynamic range....which will suit Guitarists who have a very high expressive skill.

Have become my standby pups recently. Love the low end sound at both the neck and bridge.

Unleash the Beast!!!

I have a rather simple guitar with a lone humbucker in the bridge position. I've toyed with the idea of swapping out pickups for a while so I made the leap using a "less expensive" pickup so I wouldn't be out too much if I broke it. Imagine my surprise when it turned my pussycat of a guitar into some kind of growling monster!!! Very pleased with the quality and sound of these humbuckers. Definitely a LOT of bang for your buck. Will you make the leap?

High gain sleeper....

I am a metal guitarist. I have played everything short of boutique European pickups. Currently using EMG and Duncan pickups. I Recently picked an Epiphone Prophecy Les Paul with Gibson 498T/490R pickups. They sound really good but I was looking for something a little meaner. I read a couple reviews on the G.A. overwound pickups and people were saying they were better. I ordered a single bridge pickup to see if they were correct. Upon discovering the Les Paul has some proprietary quick connect electronics, I put it in another all mahogany guitar. "HOLY S#$%!" was my immediate response to the first big drop C chord I struck. After swapping in a ceramic magnet I was floored even harder. The EMGs and Duncan pickups sound weak by comparison. I just ordered a matched zebra set and new pots for my Les Paul. These babies are not just for the vintage/clsssic rock crowd. They slay and I am sold 100%!
