Product Details

Vintage vibe, great price. Wake up your guitar! For authentic classic tone, Golden Age humbuckers feature Alnico 5 magnets and AWG42 coil wire just like the originals.

Inspired by legendary pickups of the '50s.
Alnico 5 magnets give that warm classic tone. AWG42 coils are wound on black or zebra bobbins, fabric-taped, mounted on a brass baseplate, and wax-potted for microphonic suppression. The output wire is 4-conductor plus ground, allowing versatile custom coil-tapping, series/parallel, and phase switching options to expand your sound.

Wiring diagrams and vintage dimensions make installation in most humbucker-equipped guitars easy.

Bridge models:9.0K ohms, 2.015" polepiece spread
Neck models:8.0K ohms, 1.97" polepiece spread

Mounting screws, springs and wiring diagrams are included.

Dimensions
Length2.75"(69.85mm)
Width1.5"(38.10mm)
Height.840"(21.34mm)including mounting tabs

Looking for hotter output with more powerful midrange? Check out Golden Age Overwound Humbuckers.

TIP: Handy Humbucker Helpers make installation a whole lot easier.

Color-matching Cream Parts and Bindings
There have always been slight variations in the color of the cream plastic parts used on Gibson and other guitars. It's not uncommon to see brand new and vintage guitars with bindings, pickup rings, toggle switch rings and pickguards that don't perfectly match in color. We do our best to match all our cream products, but there's no absolute control from batch to batch, or from supplier to supplier.

Golden Age Humbuckers

Bought the Zebras for neck and bridge position for my Epiphone LP Standard Plus TOP that comes factory equiped with the Burstbuckers. Those Burstbuckers sounded muddy, especially in the neck position. But now with the Golden Age Humbuckers, wow, what a difference, nice warm vintage sound and the lows are clean, not muddy. Great for the price, no need to spend +80 bucks per pickup on Seymour Duncan or Gibson.
If you need a bit more bite out of the bridge pickup, you should go with the hotter overwound version.

I recently purchased a set of Golden Age humbuckers for an Ibanez AS73 (an older one I found with the sunburst finish) I wanted to upgrade. I had previously had good luck with the Parson's Street buckers, but wanted the regular Golden Age for this upgrade because of the wax potting. Fortunately, the regular Golden Age sound great to me, and I have since a/b'ed the guitar along with my Gibson Les Paul, which has burstbucker pros. The Golden Age sound great to me, and compare very favorably. If available, I would have used an Alnico II bridge to soften it slightly on this semi-hollow, but a slight adjustment to the treble control on the rear pickup has mitigated that. In short, the Ibanez semi-hollow has become one of my gigging guitars now, and sounds like I want it to through stage monitors and also thru my favorite amps, for small gigs. Wonderful product, I can heartily recommend to anyone considering a pickup upgrade.

I bought an Epi Special I limited edition a few weeks ago on sale knowing before hand that I would be changing pickups. All I was looking for was a nice straight neck, honestly. I'd been considering trying the Golden Age pickups for quite a while and this seemed like a great opportunity. I'm really, really glad I did. The difference in tone from the original Epi pickups is astounding! The guitar didn't sound bad stock, but suddenly the tone is more crisp, round and articulate. All the harmonics and overtones are present and the guitar just sounds great! I have several guitars including a custom-built Strat and Tele, but I have to say, the Epi Special is my absolute favorite (at least for now). I have used lots of different pickups over the last 40 years of playing guitar and none have impressed me as much as the Golden Age pickups. I would not hesitate to put them in any other guitar I own - in fact, I may just do that. If only they made a GA mini-humbucker for another Epi I own, an Alleykat semi-hollow body. Maybe a P-90? Hmmm. Just buy these pickups. Not just "great for the price", they are simply great sounding pickups.

Installed in a 1982 Ibanez AM205 Mahogany Burl (similar to a 339 Gibson). These pups are deep and brilliant and compare nicely to Bartolini's. Cts pots and .047 caps and switch for parallel / tap / series on bridge pup.

I bought this brand for the neck and bridge for my 335 copy. What an improvement. The more I play, the better it sounds. It's almost like you have to break it in or something. I am new to this website but my first impression were pretty great. Fastest then ANYTHING I ordered on the web (and my wife thinks I order way to much stuff) for mail delivery.

GA mod love

I'm not sure why this option isn't available direct, but I got the Golden Age pickup, and put an Alnico II in place of the V. For the bridge this is straight up awesome vintage sound. I felt the V magnet had too much high end for my particular guitar (yes I said too much high from a humbucker). I also got a neck GA, and left the Alnico V magnet in for that position. The two pickups compliment each other perfectly. I'm not sure how these compare to, say a SD 59, but I can't imaging the Golden Age with the mod is too far off. Either way, I won't be buying an SD as I'm totally satisfied now. In fact I took the SD Custom out of my favorite guitar and put in a GA with the A-II mod, and this guitar came back to life with a beautiful mix of twangy highs, and creamy mids. Everyone qualifies these pickups by saying "good for the money", but I think these are just beast pickups period.

I put one of these in a Supro Coronado that i restored and it sounds fantastic! I am really happy with it. I play mostly rock / blues and it sounds great clean or with overdrive. Priced right... sounds great!
