CTS Push-pull Pots, SPST

About This Item

Top quality CTS control pots with a switch on the back. Add a switch to your guitar wiring without drilling a new hole.

The built-in single-pole single-throw switch is electrically separate from the control pot. You might use this switch to coil-cut a humbucker, or use it as a dedicated on/off switch for a pickup.

Split shaft versions are designed for press-fit knobs. Solid shafts are for set-screw knobs. The long shaft #0223 fits carved-top solidbodies and other guitars with thicker tops.

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS pots from StewMac have even more to like: closer tolerances and longer life!

We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Good switch, but something you should consider...(see below)

The Pot: Great, tapering nicely and performing as expected.

The Push\Pull aspect: Great - BUT, if you intend to replace an existing pot using the previous knob, you may want to consider replacing the knob. Many plastic volume/tone knobs use vertical fluting to create friction when you rotate the pot. The same flutes that give you more friction when turning the knob, give you less friction as you try to pull it up, since the fluting is now parallel, rather than perpendicular to the motion. A metal knob with criss-crossed fluting would work well.

Final consideration - the black (plastic) chassis that sits atop (when the pot is inverted) effectively covers the "bottom" of the pot. You can solder your ground wires to the side of the pot of course, but you may not think of that at purchase time. I mention it just so that you will. It's not a hassle, just a consideration.

Good quality pot,

CTS pots have always work well in all my projects, guitars, amps ,whatever.

Way too much rotational slack

Everything about the pot functions as it should, but there is definitely an obnoxious amount of rotational play (basically the pot will always rotate freely several degrees). It just has a cheap feel to it. I would expect more quality out of a CTS product.

Great for projects

These are much easier to use for a simple coil split. The tabs can be bent over to help save space. I would like to see a shaft length between the short and long. The long shaft takes up a lot of space if your guitar isn't pretty thick. For instance an Ibanez comes with a short shaft that barely makes it. If you want a little room to play with like I did and use the long shaft it may be a fit issue in the cavity.

Perfect OEM replacement!

A customer brought me his 120th Anniversary Gibson SG.....his house had flooded and he found the guitar floating in the case ..... long story short, these CTS push pull pots are exactly what Gibson used at the factory - you know how much clearance you have in an SG control cavity, right? Nice, smooth action on these pots, too.
