CTS Control Pots

About This Item

CTS pots have long been the first choice in American guitars. CTS pots from StewMac have even more to like: closer tolerances and longer life!

We've specified these CTS pots to feature a longer-life brass shaft and tighter ±10% resistance tolerance compared to CTS products offered by most other suppliers.

CTS precision audio taper gives you smoother and more accurate response than you'll get with economy pots. Crank your guitar up to 10 and the volume swells all the way—no abrupt flattening to choke your playing style.

Available with split shaft for fine-knurled (24-spline) knob, or with smooth shaft to fit a set-screw knob. A long-shaft 500K-ohm version fits Les Paul style carved-top solidbodies.

Each CTS pot includes a flat washer, lock washer, and two hex mounting nuts for custom height adjustment on a pickguard or control plate.

Which pot value should you choose?
500K pots are standard controls for humbuckers, and 250Ks are usually used for single-coil pickups. A 250K gives a slightly warmer tone than a 500K, and bleeds off (attenuates) some of the high frequencies to ground.

Replacement Mounting Nuts and Lock Washers are also available.

Love my CTS Pots

By

I have used CTS Pots like these in all my builds. They last well, sound great, feel tight and smooth. I would not use anything else.

2 of the 4 pots purchased became loose from the casing. From just installing on the guitar.

Les Paul Replacement

By

I bought these for my 1992 Les Paul Standard. What a difference they made in controlling the volume levels and cleaning up the pickups over all. I always had a hard time getting a clean sound with the stock pots that Gibson installed on this guitar. Now its wayyyyy better!!!

Doesn't get much better

These simply are good, reliable potentiometers. The only way it could be bettered if they could somehow standardise the feel of the taper throughout their production as you turn the pots, but that's probably my being picky. Works great!

Not an electronics tech, but needed these to fix up a git I bought. Worked fine... They're good pots.

Long Shaft pot

By

These seem like nice pots. I do wish they would make them with the range in the 550K area and use Bakelite for the carbon track like the old Centralab pots from the `50's & `60's. Seems so hard to find a "vintage" style pot that has a long shaft like this with the taper of a vintage pot. All the pots in my Gibson's are vintage Centralab's. I'm using this in a new Travis Bean Artist guitar and I do not want to route the inside of the cavity.

Gone 2 pot

Bought this and another CTS pot for a partscaster project. The DPDT pot was fine but this one behaved very erratic. I contacted SM and they shipped another out to me. I metered the replacement and readings indicated it performed as I expected a CTS to perform...and all is well.
I like this type of pot for it's solid shaft and overall build quality. However, StewMac's customer service was the real performer here with its willingness to work with me on a resolution.

I always use these when replacing pots on a tele or equivalent guitar along with the Emerson no load blender pot in the tone position.
