250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. You can use any value you like, but a 250K will give a slightly warmer tone than a 500K pot. The 250K pot bleeds off some of the high frequencies to ground. A 1 Meg-ohm pot bleeds off even less than a 500K pot, so if you want to hear your guitar "wide open" you may want to try one.

1-meg pots are also ideal for piezo pickups, as the ultra high impedance piezo element is more adversely effected by conventional, lower-value pots than magnetic pickups.

We also have a full line of control pots for non-active circuitry. Extra mounting nuts and lock washers are also available.

Worked great in my Steinberger Synapse

I wanted to have a way of switching off and saving battery life without having to pull out the guitar cord on stage. This pot/switch combo did the trick. I've been using it for a few weeks and it's working great. Highly recommended

they make a "pop" noise when pulled out

By
(Customer's Reviews)

i got one of these 6 months back but it had a scratchy noise on turning and pop noise when pulled out (grounded properly installed by a tech).. the stewmac support was super nice and sent me a replacement overseas to me super fast but the replacement also has the same pop noise although this one does not have the scratchy turning noise so thats good i did not call for another replacement after this and am just running with it

but really strange for a pot from a "high quality shop" like stewmac, maybe these pushpull pots dont work well or the tech is an idiot (which i doubt because he rewired my bass with a whole lot of extras and came up with very cool solutions and did everything else well)

if i had a choice i would just go for installing a on-on switch with a pot but that would mean drilling another whole (still might be better than a wonky pot like this one, meh) but am using and it is running fine except for the pop i get when i toggle

Good Push-Pull Pots

These are good pots if you need a push-pull. I ordered 4 for my Epiphone Les Paul Plus top (2012)so I could get more sounds out of my new pickups and they work great. I like the feel of them and the switches feel solid. Just a warning to owners of recent Epi Les Pauls, you will have to open your holes slightly for these to fit. It doesn't take much. I couldn't find a hand held reamer locally but I was able to find a step bit for a drill which also fit my screwdriver (the kind with changeable bits)and I used it that way so I could still do it by hand without resorting to using a drill. You aren't removing enough material to need a drill, just a few turns of the step bit opened the hole enough for the new pots to fit. One of the 4 measured a little low on my meter, but the other 3 were very close to 500K.

The real deal.

I recently bought what were supposedly Alpha pots from another supplier and they were scratchy, noisy junk. Bought these from StewMac and they are fantastic. Completely smooth and quiet.

No need to drill or ream when you can get the pots that fit. Alpha pots are good quality and make the job easier if your replacing originals.

Great Pot

The Alpha Push-pull Pots work great for splitting pick-ups on guitars with passive pick-ups. I have read some negative reviews about these pots. I have had great results with Alpha Push-pull Pots. Thank You Stew Mac for great products and service.
