250K vs. 500K
Generally, 500K-ohm pots are used with humbuckers and 250Ks are used with single-coil pickups. 25K pots are used for active systems.

You can use any value you like, but a 250K will give a slightly warmer tone than a 500K pot. The 250K pot bleeds off some of the high frequencies to ground. A 1 Meg-ohm pot bleeds off even less than a 500K pot, so if you want to hear your guitar "wide open" you may want to try one.

1-meg pots are also ideal for piezo pickups, as the ultra high impedance piezo element is more adversely effected by conventional, lower-value pots than magnetic pickups.

We also have a full line of control pots for non-active circuitry. Extra mounting nuts and lock washers are also available.

Good Push-Pull Pots

By Howard Perry from Kennett, MO
(Customer's Reviews) Monday, August 18, 2014

These are good pots if you need a push-pull. I ordered 4 for my Epiphone Les Paul Plus top (2012)so I could get more sounds out of my new pickups and they work great. I like the feel of them and the switches feel solid. Just a warning to owners of recent Epi Les Pauls, you will have to open your holes slightly for these to fit. It doesn't take much. I couldn't find a hand held reamer locally but I was able to find a step bit for a drill which also fit my screwdriver (the kind with changeable bits)and I used it that way so I could still do it by hand without resorting to using a drill. You aren't removing enough material to need a drill, just a few turns of the step bit opened the hole enough for the new pots to fit. One of the 4 measured a little low on my meter, but the other 3 were very close to 500K.

The real deal.

I recently bought what were supposedly Alpha pots from another supplier and they were scratchy, noisy junk. Bought these from StewMac and they are fantastic. Completely smooth and quiet.

No need to drill or ream when you can get the pots that fit. Alpha pots are good quality and make the job easier if your replacing originals.

The Alpha Push-pull Pots work great for splitting pick-ups on guitars with passive pick-ups. I have read some negative reviews about these pots. I have had great results with Alpha Push-pull Pots. Thank You Stew Mac for great products and service.

I bought these to replace my tone pots on my LP project that I built. These are very smooth turning and the on/off switching is very quiet but solid. IÆll be using these for years to come. This is how i put them to work: I used the Jimmy Page wiring diagram from StewMac for the bridge PU and added my own twist by switching the neck PU from series to parallel. I also swapped the in/out on the volume pots to have separate PU control. The other thing I did was add a RC circuit to the neck volume. Everything works better than expected!

Very nice!!!
