Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our #7373 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

Jazz guitar setup

I've been a pro for years, I usually have my guitars worked on etc...
But have been having problems with my Guild Artist with Bartolini 5J techs never seem to be able to get volume and tone pots to work that well. Generally volume worked between 8 - 10 and tone or treble filter never worked that well
. Long story short. Used new Alpha Mini Pots, added Golden Age Treble Circuit with .001 uf ceramic capacitor, fishman switchjack and after going from Kent Armstrong pickup to the Bartolini and recently tried the Benedetto.... Went back to the Bartolini with new parts from StewMac. Did work myself and now have beautiful tone with even Volume. I used the 0.022 uf capacitor and followed Bartolini's Single 1-Conductor pickup - Passive Wiring Setup.
Thanks StewMac. Reg

Very happy - Sounds great

I installed these treble bleed circuits on my Strat, Gretsch 6120 master volume, and Gretsch Duo Jet master volume. The tone quality remainded the same after installation and the treble remained at all lower volumes. Before the install the treble was lost alot during volume reduction. I like having the capability to adjust volume at the guitar. Thanks for the video on StewMac.

Devil in the details

These are amazing for your tone consistency. I am a bit of a control freak with tone and sound-all being intentional instead of accidental.
PS- check to see if your guitar has one or not before buying. My new 12-string had one factory installed.

When the volume was turned down on my hollow body archtop guitar, the tone just went flat.

This circuit did exactly what it is supposed to do. So I am very happy. I don't know why it is not a standard installation.

Rewired a 1976 Telecaster and very happy with with the results. Put in new pots, new caps and a four way switch to series the neck and bridge pickups in position four. I also lined the cavities and back of the pick guard with copper foil. It sounds great. Searched the internet for better prices for all components and couldn't find better prices.

Treble Bleed is great!

Started running these in my Strat and have since added them to my PRS (Zach Myers doesn't come with treble bleed like most PRS). Really love that the volume actually works the volume and the tone controls, work the tone. Makes it much simpler to work them independently rather than having them interdependent.

Added to my tele when I changed out all the guts. Love not losing treble when rolling off the volume. Priceless

Perfect!

My 2001 PRS Custom 24 already had their version of a treble bleed but it lacked a resistor, so as the volume was turned down the highs got brighter and brighter making it necessary to roll off highs on the tone pot. The StewMac kit totally solved this. The fidelity does not change as you turn town the volume. Excellent!

Have been holding out to purchse this bleed circuit. I'm really glad I did, this is the secret sauce I've been looking for.
I'm going to be buying more for my other guitars.
Thanks,
Victor
