Golden Age Treble Bleed Circuit

About This Item

An easy mod for your volume control to get more uniform guitar tone from 1 to 10.

Hand-soldered here in our shop: a 150K-ohm 1/4-watt resistor (1% tolerance) in parallel with a .001uF capacitor. Wire this simple mod between the input and output lugs of your guitar volume control pot, to smooth out treble bleed. Get more uniform tone from 1 to 10, and a more rounded sound at low volume. Available with ceramic or Orange Drop® capacitor.

Hear the difference in TradeSecrets Issue 182.

Due to the small size of the resistor, we recommend using Alligator Clip Heat Sinks when soldering this circuit in place.

For modding original caps, see our 150K-ohm 1/4-watt Resistor.

Love at first sound

(Customer's Reviews)

I have always hated that when I roll back my volume, the tone "thins out" instantly. Problem solved with this mod. I put it in my Gibson Spirit (L.P. junior basically)and now putting one in my Tele (2 humbucker Blacktop). I need a suitcase full of these. I will be putting these in every guitar I own and will own. My first "mod" I do on every single guitar I get is strap locks. I will now add this to every future guitar purchase. It sounds and performs exactly as presented.

Made a Big difference in my Fender Telecaster. Relatively easy to install. I used the copper alligator clips to protect the circuitry and works great. I give it 5-Stars !!! Will definitely buy more from StewMac!

Overall good; changed my vol taper and a bit too trebley for me

(Customer's Reviews)

I put this in my Strat Am Dlx. I really liked the sound - overall, at first. And its really a breeze to install...if you do not mind removing strings and the Pickguard. Anyway, I lived with it for 2 weeks and then decided it made my strat a little to trebley...I tend to keep my vol around 7-8, so the circuit was definitely in play. And I found I was doing a lot of twiddling with the tone pots; and not getting the strat sound I have grown to like. The other issue was the taper on my vol pot was changed. This eventually turned out to be a no go for me. As I came up on the vol pot from 0..the sound would increase very fast at 1-2 (like an on/off switch)...really screwed up my swells. I tried to compensate by going back to a volume pedal, but I am not a fan of more equip to solve a problem. So, I took it out and I got to admit I prefer the overall sound of my unmoded strat, though I definitely see the value of this approach and it was a fun experiment.
