Fret Dressing Stick with Micro-Mesh Belts

About This Item

Upgraded to Micro-Mesh!
The Fret Dressing Stick features interchangeable Micro-Mesh® sanding belts for removing the scratches left by leveling and crowning files.

This comfortable tool is spring-loaded to keep pressure on the sanding belt. A flip of your thumb rotates the belt for a fresh sanding surface. The compact size makes it ideal for fretwork. Use the grits in sequence to achieve a mirror shine on frets and hardware.

TIP: Some of us like to file a groove in the end of the stick. This way it fits over the fretwire like a crowning file.

Much more durable than traditional sandpaper, Micro-Mesh sanding belts are constructed with a thin cushion between the cloth back and the abrasive crystals. This cushion allows the crystals to align evenly and prevents random scratches in your work. Micro-Mesh crystals do not load up or generate heat the way traditional sandpaper does.

The tool measures 6-3/8" (162mm) long. The Micro-Mesh sanding belts are 1/4" (6.35mm) wide.

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

There was nothing wrong with the old German sanding belts, they worked fine and were an integral part of our fretwork. The new ones are thin, flimsy and don't reach tension on the 'stick' so constantly slide off.
Now looking for an alternative unless a drastic improvement is made. Why the change Stewmac?

Fret Sannding Stick Many Uses

Fret Dressing Stick isn't only for fret work. It's great for leveling drip marks in lacquer finishes or super glue touch-ups, for sanding inlays, for fine scroll work, and more.

Detail sanding sticks and belts

By

This is a very handy product. They work really well. I'd like to take this opportunity to suggest that it would make this an even better tool, if at the back end of the stick the half round sides stuck out maybe an 1/8" on both sides. When advancing the belts around they have a tendency to slide off this point.

New Belts - no fun!

By

I got my second order of the new belts, have to agree that these belts are really rubbish. Hope there's a way to get back to the old ones again! The backing of the sandpaper is very soft, very hard to work with. I always used them to polish frets, but now it's real hard work. :-(

Rubbish

By

Verified Buyer

This belts are rubbish compared to the older ones from Germany. The grip with the stick is basically useless.

Upgrade?

By

Verified Buyer

I used the "old" sticks and the old belts for years now and could not be more satisfied. With the new sticks and belts, I am not so happy. The belt slips of the stick constantly. Could we please get the old belts back? They worked fine!

Great tool for a small job

By

Works well for small details on fret dressing. Only need a couple different grits of belts for what I do. Belts are available from multiple sources, so you don't have to worry about getting them quick in a pinch. Great to use in woodworking, too. Lots of other uses--research on the internet will find a lot of cool suggestions including how to alter the stick for specialty use.

Too long

By

These belts are just a little too long and don't come up to adequate tension as the original belts.

Waste of money

By

The paper is super expensive. And rotating it along the stick is a hassle -- at least compared to just folding a small piece of sandpaper. That does the same job, just cheaper without monkeying around with a plastic stick. Plus, if you really want to get a nice shine on your frets, better off doing a little final sanding across the width of the frets, rather than the length. Can't do that with this gizmo.
