It can be fun making your own.

Making your own routing and drilling jigs for making pickguards and covers can be work, but it can be fun too. And, though buying pickguards ready made can be cheaper if you consider the labor, there is more fun and feeling of accomplishment making your own. If you have made all the required jigs, one 12-13 dollar piece can get you 3 pickguards (plus a few control covers and etc. with the remnant pieces); I'm at that point, and it feels great. Now on to the actual plastic: no complaints!

This stuff is a bear to cut!

I bought this material to make a pickguard for my acoustic guitar, not realizing how thick 0.059" is. I understand now that this stuff is for electric guitars, but I forged ahead and made one for my acoustic anyway. I designed it by taking a straight on photo of my guitar, putting into my computer graphics program and then tracing the edge of the guitar and getting the sound hole size correct and then the rest was my creativity! I then printed out the outline (backwards), pressed the sticky side of clear shelf paper onto it (which picks up the ink, but doesn't really stick to the paper), peeled it off and then had an outline that I stuck onto the back of the pick guard material. Now the lines were drawn and the battle began! I used tin snips to get a rough shape, but the rest was a Dremel tool, a drill and a lot of hand filing with really small files. It's not perfect, like it would be if I created a wood form anf then bevel cut it, but I don't have ready access to the tools to be able to do that. Besides, the cutout in the pick guard would not have been possible using that method. The cross on head was the most difficult to make, but I wasn't going to give up!. The 3-M two-sided adhesive stuff worked spectacularly well. Although there was a lot of drama (in my mind) as I said, "You have one shot to get this on correctly..." as the picture shows, I got it on mostly where I wanted it. Thanks Stew-Mack!

This stuff was really easy to work with. It cut well with scissors and I made couple of replacement pickguards for my Ric. Very good quality.

I am so glad I have found Stewmac for luthier supplies. This Pickguard material is wonderful. Small enough to make many small guards or truss rod covers but still large enough to make big guards like for a jazzmaster, jazz bass, precision bass or telecaster bass. Great Job Stewmac.

I've been making my own pickguards from Stew-Mac material for years. I LOVE the fact that I can use any shape I want. I sometimes get as many as 3 or 4 guards from one sheet of material! That makes Stewart-MacDonald's Pickguard Material the BEST bang for buck of anything I have found ANYWHERE! Well done Stewart-MacDanald!

I used a sheet of the white pickguard material to make a control cavity cover for a quitar a painted white, to create a more seamless look on the back. The material cuts easy with shears, sands well, and takes a countersink bit well too. I ended up with a control cavity cover that looks stock! Thanks, Stewmac, It's harder than you think to find this stuff.

It cuts well, and looks exactly how you would expect - white. The only problem i had with it was the plastic coating on it, It was kind of difficult to mark.

This is great material to work with. I used it to make the pickguard for my La Cabronita build I completed. I'm gonna buy the cream colored next for a pickguard for a black La Cabronita I'm building.
