Ripply finish when installed

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Stew-Mac, please get this in a .010" thickness. I know it's available because I get it from another supplier. I'd rather just order it from you guys. The thicker stock lays down smoothly with a glossy finish that causes it to seemingly disappear on a gloss top. This thinner material does not. It is discouraging to spend hours on buffing out a guitar only to add a clear guard that appears somewhat orange peel-like or ripply.

Easy as pie

This material is super easy to cut with scissors or a good blade. It goes on easy, and stays. I buy it all the time and use it up quickly. I've had similar material from other vendors, but they usually don't pack it correctly and when you get it there is a crease or two, rendering it useless. The stewmac ones always come in pristine condition.

Not happy

I wanted this for a flamenco guitar. This material is too thin. It is not what you find on true flamenco guitar. I ended up having to purchase the correct material from another vendor. Now I'm stuck with this and will never use it. For what I paid it is not worth the shipping to send it back.

Best Option for Clear Pickguard

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I have tried most of the pickguards and pickguard blanks out there. None were very good.
I hadn't tried these blank sheets because they were too thin in my opinion to resist downward strikes with a pick without denting. So I got the bright idea to laminate two thicknesses together and see how that worked. A little risk on my part but it turned out quite well. I laminated two rectangles together and there were no bubbles. Traced the outline of my custom pickguard design to the backing paper and cut it. I did thorough cleaning of the entire surface of the guitar and went in the bathroom where I have a counter large enough to set a guitar work mat. The results were as good as one could hope for...and better than precut pickguards by a long shot.
This material is barely visible and the double thickness is better for protection. Be sure to use the "wet method" of applying clear sheet.

This material worked really well to produce a pickguard for my custom guitar. Used the wet water method and it came out perfectly.

Best solution

I had my Telecaster pickguard autographed by Bill Kirchen recently. I took the pickguard off the Tele & brought it when I saw him play. The signature was done on a white 3 layer pickguard with a Sharpie. After researching all methods of preservation, using a sheet of this clear material was the best. I used a dry method of application and it went on easily. I trimmed with an X-acto after it was on and smoothed out any small air pockets. ItÆs perfect. The sheet of material is rigid and does a great job going on without misbehaving like it was Saran wrap. The end result is smooth and undetectable.
