Our unbleached bone is harder than bleached white bone, and has a mottled cream vintage look. Its hardness and density contributes to good tone, it polishes well, and it allows more precise filing.

Stewart-MacDonald is your source for quality bone!
Bone is traditionally favored for quality instruments.

Blank saddles have oversize length and height, for custom shaping in your shop. They're ready for trimming, filing, sanding and slotting.

Pre-shaped saddles will save you a LOT of work—a head start for the novice, and a timesaver for the busy shop. The sizes have been carefully researched, and accurately radiused, so that minor trimming, slotting, and sanding are usually all you'll need to do.

Good news: our super-hard vintage-look unbleached bone saddles are available with B-string compensation too, so you'll save even more time! Minor trimming and height adjustment are usually all you'll need to do.

"These pre-radiused saddles save me LOADS of shaping time. Bone is my favorite material for great tone, too."
—Erick Coleman, StewMac tech advisor

Only one small problem

By John Patterson from UK
(Customer's Reviews) Saturday, September 08, 2012

The size of the bone saddle was incorrect being more like 7/64's than 3/32's as advertised which ment I had to spend some considerable time sanding down the saddle to the correct thickness. However the end result was worth the trouble.

Oversized Unbleached Bone Saddle Blank

By BobD from NJ USA
(Customer's Reviews) Sunday, September 02, 2012

I needed an over-sized saddle blank to compensate for intonation problems with my RK ROS-06. This Stew-Mac blank is the largest I found. It's a high quality piece of unbleached bone that looks great and worked well to solve my problem. I used my Dremel tool, a small hand file and sandpaper to shape it. I was able to drop the strings back around 2/64 to 3/64. It may look unorthodox but now the intonation is spot on.

Bone saddles

While I love the overall quality of the natural bone saddles purchased at StewMac, I am disappointed in the lack of consistancy in dimensions. Specifically, the thickness. It varies by over .008" between 3 samples; by over .020" if I include samples from a previous order. My bridges require extreme accuracy, and I find myself spending more time on the saddle than any other piece.

Bone for Tone.

Bone is best, and this is another quality part from Stew Mac. Just can't beat bone for tone! It also polishes up beautifully.

I replaced a plastic saddle on a Martin guitar with this bone saddle and it really brought out the tone, volume, and dynamic range of an already great guitar.

This saddle gives superior tone. It was pre-radiused, and with a minimal amount of work, it fit the slot, and what a tone!!

I especially like the unbleached bone nuts and saddles for that traditional look and tone.
