Stewart-MacDonald is your source for quality bone!
Bone is traditionally favored for quality instruments. Our unbleached bone is harder than bleached white bone, and has a mottled cream vintage look. Its hardness and density contributes to good tone, it polishes well, and it allows more precise filing.

Blank saddles have oversize length and height, for custom shaping in your shop. They're ready for trimming, filing, sanding and slotting.

Shaped saddles will save you a LOT of work—a head start for the novice, and a timesaver for the busy shop. The sizes have been carefully researched, and accurately radiused, so that minor trimming, slotting, and sanding are usually all you'll need to do.

Good news: our super-hard unbleached bone saddles are available with B-string compensation too, so you'll save even more time!

A good solid product

I bought this saddle as it was the closest on in the thickness dimension to the old too short saddle in my older Guild D25, someone had tried lowering the action, and then had to shim the saddle when it proved to be too low. The saddle is too long and too tall for the Guild, but is close in thickness at 125 thousandths. I am sure it would require lots less fitting if it were used on a guitar it was made for. What can I say about a product that fully fulfills expectations? The bone is unbleached which I like, clean and hard, and is dimensioned as advertised. Delivery was prompt.

Great StewMac Quality

In my opinion, the unbleached bone saddle is a little darker than portrayed in the online picture. I was a little surprised by it, but it ended up working well with the antique acoustic that I was working with. Works well and dimensions are large enough to shape however you like.

A little thick...

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Used with one of the Martin-style replacement bridges purchased through StewMac and had to thin it by about 25% to fit the pre-cut slot. Have used synthetic stuff and on earlier saddle/nut jobs. Bone is perhaps a little more difficult to shape, but I'm thinking I like the result better.

Just a warning that working bone with power tools (band saw, belt/disk sander) for rough shaping can be rather... ahem... aromatic. If you're a person who cringes at the thought of smelling your own teeth burning under the dentist's drill, well this is the same odor.

Unbleached Bone Saddle

An appearance necessity on acoustics or bone saddle archtop bridge if you are using the unbleached bone nut. Having the color of the nut and saddle match makes the setup look much more professional.

Bone Saddle

Great product. It shapes easier (in my opinion) than tusq or plastic. I wouldn't recommend it for an under saddle pickup, but the guitar I put it on is a Martin/Sigma with a Fishman sound hole pickup, and it does add to the tone...

I love the look of the unbleached bone. I wonder why anyone would want the softer bleached ones.
