Our unbleached bone is harder than bleached white bone, and has a mottled cream vintage look. Its hardness and density contributes to good tone, it polishes well, and it allows more precise filing.

Stewart-MacDonald is your source for quality bone!
Bone is traditionally favored for quality instruments.

Blank saddles have oversize length and height, for custom shaping in your shop. They're ready for trimming, filing, sanding and slotting.

Pre-shaped saddles will save you a LOT of work—a head start for the novice, and a timesaver for the busy shop. The sizes have been carefully researched, and accurately radiused, so that minor trimming, slotting, and sanding are usually all you'll need to do.

Good news: our super-hard vintage-look unbleached bone saddles are available with B-string compensation too, so you'll save even more time! Minor trimming and height adjustment are usually all you'll need to do.

"These pre-radiused saddles save me LOADS of shaping time. Bone is my favorite material for great tone, too."
—Erick Coleman, StewMac tech advisor

Stewmac should make it clearer that this does not just slot in. It needs finishing..

A real necessity

I put bone saddles on every acoustic guitar I own and I own plenty. Bleached or unbleached makes no difference in tone, that is just a matter of taste, choosing what looks best on your guitar. If you want the best tone in your guitar the first thing you absolutely need is a bone saddle.

solid, dense, consistent quality bone. color is generally solid cream with some butter-colored grain. makes a huge difference in sound quality.

nice color, great hardness and tone transfer and when combined with a good nut and bridge pins adds a new dimension to the guitars tone. Hard bone is a bit more diffuclut to work but worth the effort...

Great time-saver

This is a very handy item! It took very little time for me to sand it down to size for my Luna acoustic guitar. Looks great and no problem at all to fit. I am deducting one star for a subjective reason though- I'm actually not terribly impressed with the tone vs the graphtech TUSQ saddles... After trying all the combinations- I got the best sound out of my maple-bodied acoustic using a bone nut and a graphtech saddle...

Nice and bright sound.

The harmonics at the right place.

By Kinema Music Studio from S+úo Paulo - Brazil
(Customer's Reviews) Monday, July 22, 2013

I've use it to do a bridge to my Sigma/Martin DM-4. Now I can hear all the harmonics, even the bass ones, that was messed with the original plastic bridge. Playing in C tune (like Don Ross, Andy McKee), the definition of all the notes is something remarkable. I did the same to my Eagle acoustic guitar (Folk E tune) and the sound quality improvement is the same one, especially on the recording sessions. John Pearse Strings is a good combination. Thank you guys!

Happy with the purchase

Nice quality and tone. The pre shaped saddle saved a lot of time and effort on my part. The un-bleached bone has an organic visual quality that I like.
