Much harder than bleached bone. I try to get all my customers to use unbleached bone.

Unbleached Bone Nut

Great product well worth the cost. You may get one that is white and yellow, so you'll have to decide which spot to use or sand away. I will buy more of these.

Added tone

By
(Customer's Reviews)

A bone nut is not as critical as a bone saddle for good tone, but it definitely improves tone over plastic or Tusq nuts. It is the second most important thing you can do to improve tone. The third is bridge pins. Bleached or unbleached bone makes no difference on tone, only changing looks. Adding a bone nut is harder than adding a bone saddle due to the precision needed to shape and tune the nut for optimum playing. Anyone can put on a bone saddle, but not everyone can install a bone nut. It takes some skill to optimize the string depth. If you or a friend can install it correctly, it is worth every penny.

Going nuts over nuts

By
(Customer's Reviews)

After years and years of trying different materials for making nuts from synthetics to alloys and bone. Short of using ivory (which I don't use of course) man, I got to say go back to bone, it stands as alone. For long term quality of tone and last-ability, BONE. Given a choice bleached to unbleached. If color is an issue, bleached,if longevity is what you seek and not the color or shade, unbleached. I don't mean to sound repetitive, But they got it right in the early days, The masters used, you got it. BONE. Back to basics, back to bone. You'll never know the difference until you've had it...Cheers RS

reliable, consistent, quality parts. bone pieces are dense and color is generally solid cream with some butter-colored grain. be careful - cats and dogs won't leave you alone while you're carving/sanding bone pieces!

This nut blank was just what my guitar needed. Sustain improved dramatically and dense bone polishes up very nicely. Highly recommended.

A recent flamenco blanca build didn't need the Pepsodent smile of bleached bone. The unbleached nut and saddle are subtle and blend in well.
