It's a small but stunning touch!

(Customer's Reviews)

I had picked up a Deering Goodtime banjo to kick around and familiarize myself with the beginnings of banjo maintenance, upgrading, etc. It came with a plastic nut, and I had heard that MOP was a common nut material among the high end banjos back in the day so I decided to give it a day in court.

Wow! Tonally, it is perfect for a banjo, and just like upgrading a plastic nut on an acoustic guitar to bone, yielded an immediate improvement in the tone. As expected from my measurements, the nut was an almost-drop-in replacement for the plastic nut on my Deering Goodtime, though with generous extra height, needing only a touch of thicknessing to get it to drop in the slot. And when it polishes up, it's an absolute eye-catcher. There's just something about the gentle shimmer of the pearl as the light glances around it. The blank I received had variations of figure, as one would expect in a cut of shell this thick, but had some areas of extraordinary figure and depth on all faces. Even at its most plain areas, it's still remarkable. Best $10 upgrade you can make on a banjo, in my humble experience. Thanks, Stew-Mac crew!

I echo the other folks who wish that it could be supplied in larger blanks for use with other projects.

Peal nut

(Customer's Reviews)

I bought a pearl nut blank for my banjo. After the nut arrived, I realized that I needed a nut length of 1.280 instead of 1.250 (short by 1/32"). I wish the pearl nut blanks were longer!!

(Customer's Reviews)

The material itself it great. Couldn't have asked for a nicer piece of MOP. I wish it was available in wider pieces for guitar and uke nuts. It is just a little too narrow at 1.25".
