StewMac Triple-O Acoustic Guitar Kit

About This Item

Torrefied tops now available!
Build a great sounding 000-size guitar from AAA-grade tonewoods. Start with the advantage of precision machining from our Ohio shop.

  • Carved mahogany neck
  • Accurately bent sides
  • Bookmatched back, joined and cut to shape
  • AAA spruce top with soundhole and rosette channel
  • Slotted fingerboard, ready for frets

Designed with your success in mind
With the kit, you get a lot of help to make sure your guitar turns out great. The full-size blueprint is modeled after a prized vintage Martin, and shows exactly how every part fits. A sturdy cardboard body mold holds the guitar sides in the perfect contour as you build.

The instruction book is really a short course in guitarmaking, by luthiers Todd Sams and Dan Erlewine; no other kit has anything like it. Todd and Dan made the step-by-step DVD that's included with the kit, too (a $39.95 value). From start to finish, these guitarmakers guide you to a successful build.

You don't need a big shop
We've done the critical machining, so the neck joint and other parts fit well right from the start.

A slotted bone nut and shaped bone saddle are included, along with inlays, bindings and our two-way Hot Rod truss rod. (We know that tuning machines are something you'll prefer to choose for yourself.)

New torrefied spruce option
Choose a torrefied spruce top for the stability, tone and look of well-aged vintage wood. This high-temperature, low-oxygen kiln drying improves the wood, similar to decades of natural aging.

    Included in our kits:
  • Solid AAA tonewoods: spruce, rosewood and mahogany
  • Precisely machined neck joint at the 12-fret, dovetail or bolt-on
  • Bridge pins, end pin, frets, bindings, rosette and trim
  • Hot Rod two-way adjustable truss rod
  • Precut heavy cardboard molds for trouble-free body assembly
  • Full-size blueprint and bracing template
  • Illustrated 36-page spiral-bound instruction book
  • Step-by-step DVD: Building an Acoustic Guitar Kit

Got my Guitar kit from this amazing company. I had a few problems assembling it when I first started. I expressed this to them and, not expecting anything, they shipped me some replacement parts at no charge. Blew me away. In my humble opinion it is hard to find a company, any company that provides the level of service these folks do....just amazing...whatever you purchase from these folks I know in my heart you will be happy...Thank you to you all. Nicely done!

Quality Kit

By
(Customer's Reviews)

.Just received this kit and I will say I was impressed. I have built three guitars from scratch throughout the years and can really appreciate having the sweat work already done for me. I am now free to concentrate on the aesthetics of the instrument. Kit included a flawless spruce top, beautiful rosewood back and sides, one-piece mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard/headplate. The top and back bracing is precisely machined straight-grained spruce ready for gluing and tapering. I am confident this kit will produce a quality instrument. Save time and money. Thanks StewMac for a flawless product.

StewMac OOO kit

The kit came very well packed and everything is there. I did not like the color of the IR finger board which is very pink in color compared to the bridge which is a nice reddish brown. Also the Indian Rosewood sides do not match the back and the back has a washed-out patch covering 1 third of the tail of the board. The neck end of the back is a dark brown color and just past the waist there is a v that forms to the tail block that is very yellow. I don't know what the finished guitar will look like. I will try to pore fill with a black filler. This may help. The guitar kit was Back-order one month so I decided to keep it as is and not ask for replacement.

MUCH better than some others

By

This is my second build. My first was from a very well known company that has been making instruments a long time and strays with the letter following L. The quality of the components in this kit is MUCH better! The fingerboard has character, the top is close grained and the back looks cool! I can't wait to get started making this incredible quality instrument. If you're up in the air about building a kit and can't decide which one..... my vote is for the one from Stewmac! Happy building!

Very educational building a guitar from this kit - and the video and instruction manual are great guides plus tech support from Stew Mac make it like an apprenticeship. Not going to say it's easy - but it is certainly rewarding.

A Late Review....

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought this kit in 2005. I built it on the closed-in porch of my apartment in Washington DC with limited tools. As a first timer I made mistakes, but overall my finished product looked pretty good and played very well. Over the years, it's sound has gotten better and better. It's my favorite guitar to play. If you are curious and want to try building a guitar for yourself, I encourage you to try this kit. You'll make mistakes, but learn so much. And you'll finish with a nice playing instrument.

Nice Kits

Great introductory guitar building kits. I built two dreadnaughts and now the Triple-O. My only complaint is the mahogany sides do not match the cardboard forms in either the dreadnaught or the Triple-O. It was a little nerve racking to bring the sides in using to a point where I could glue the top and back on.

Amazing experience as a first time builder

By
(Customer's Reviews)

After playing for so many years I really wanted to take a stab at building my own guitar and after doing some research found the Stew Mac OOO kit and decided to go for it. I've never done any woodworking of any type and aside from the usual guitar maintenance tasks (changing strings, etc) I had never done anything remotely close to building a guitar. I followed the instructions closely, watched the DVD repeatedly as I tackled the steps and when it still wasn't clear would check online for whatever I was trying to figure out. Between those 3 things, I ended up with an amazing looking and sounding guitar and I couldn't be happier. I loved building this thing as much as I love playing it and learned so so much. I'm about to buy my next kit and I'm really stoked to start it. My biggest challenge by far was figuring out how to set the dovetail neck properly and I'll admit - it took me several attempts, but I learned from my mistakes each time and ended up with the perfect neck angle. Plus, I know how to take a glued neck off an acoustic guitar like a pro now, so that's cool. If you've ever thought about building your own acoustic guitar, I highly recommend this kit. You won't regret it and you'll probably not want to stop after finishing your first guitar.

Amazing self-made Guitar

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I got the kit in 4 days to my home in Germany. Everything fits together excellent. It was my first self-made guitar and I am very glad with the result. Only the soundboard is not in the beauty quality, like I thought. So I think this is not A1 wood and for this I take off one star. All other parts are very okay. I think it will not be my last kit from stewmac.
