StewMac Medium Fretwire

.080" to .095"
Medium widths are the most popular (used extensively by Martin, Fender and Gibson). #0148 Medium is our best seller.

Order fretwire by the pound for tidy savings!
Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

Stew Mac fretwire is always reliable and easy to use. I am always assured that the wire will get to me and still be straight, it never has blemishes or problems of any kind. The amount of different sizes makes it a breeze for any project. I would definitely use stew macs saws and mitre boxes to be sure everything will work together well.

medium fret wire

Just finished my first guitar. I was expecting the fingerboard to take a day or so but using Stewmac's Japanese Fret Saw and Mitre Box with their Medium Fretwire, it took me only a few hours to do. It is one of the highlights of my guitar and is better than the fingerboards on my other two very nice guitars.

always consistent

Be sure to clean all the oils off before rolling or installing. There is a lot of "stuff" left on the wire from the manuf. process that will interfere with any attempt to super-glue in a wide slot etc.

I use SM fretwire exclusively, buying it by the pound for economy. It's consistent, and I get good results every time.

Excellent quality fretwire

I have 5 different sizes at the moment in my shop, all from StewMac and I'm very satisfied with it!
I like also the fact that they're not cut into small pieces as Dunlop does so I can cut the lenghts as I need them.

First time is a charm

After watching some videos and reading some I was able to do a professional Fret Job on my 1965 Gibson Kalamazoo electric Guitar. I took a chance at it being my first one but after 10 hours she looks great and plays fantastic! For about six bucks in wire and under 100.00 in tools I am really becoming good at Guitar repair and upgrades thanks to Stew Mac for all the help and vidios as well as all the right tools and some at a price I can live with. Thanks to everyone at Stew Mac.

(Customer's Reviews)

I bought my guitar back in the 80s and it's been a wonderful acquiantance. Wear and tear over the years created the need to replace the top 4 frets and StewMac had the correct dimensions, speedy delivery and a fretwire that was a charm to work with! Thank you for the high quality material and excellent service!
