Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

These are my "go-to" frets. They cover the majority of repairs and building I do. More guitarists I work with prefer this profile.

I used this fret wire on my first cigar box guitar build. Very happy with the results. Love the Stewie Mac website for all the archives and free info. Thanks for all your help.

Good Choice for a Modern Martin

I purchased this guage wire for a partial refret of a 2001 Martin HD-28. It was the perfect choice as it matched the height and width. Easy to use, install, and crown. Good stuff for Martins!

0152 Fret wire, Big Dissapointment

By Mashi from USA
(Customer's Reviews) Tuesday, March 06, 2012

I recently had 2 guitars re-fretted with 0152 wire since I was looking for slightly narrower wires this time around. I now very much wished I stuck with my usual fret wire from another manufacturer. :(

After the work was done, I took one of my guitars to a 3.5 hour gig and by the end of the night, frets were completely wasted. They had perpendicular grooves on the top 3 plain strings from the strings slapping against the frets and even the wound strings did some "damage" to them. My usual brand frets last me about 3~4 years of gigs and recording works and I, along with the luthier who did the work, were quite disappointed with these wires from StewMac.

Obviously we re-fretted the first victim and are in a process in fixing the other. I am not a hobbiest guitar player and my guitars get used for gigs and recordings, so I just can't afford to have sub-standard products on my guitars.

In all fairness, there may have been some supply issues but I would recommend others to look elsewhere for good quality fret wire for now.
