Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

Like this better than the narrow for mandolins

By markgrant from tennessee

I tried this wire after seeing a Stelling mandolin a friend had. The wire has alot more meat to work with and if you have a less than perfect fretboard that is a good thing ( yeah I know, a good luthier always has a perfectly flat and true surface).I'm not a good luthier but I am trying, so anyway this wire is good so use it.

Great fret wire! It has really effective barbs. Once you have the fret pressed/tapped in place it stays there. No spring-back. When you work with quality materials, work is a pure pleasure!

I've used Stew-Mac's fretwire before, and have yet to run into any problems. Works great on acoustic and electric guitars and basses. Haven't used any other brands, don't think I need to. Overall, I'm pleased with this fretwire.

Setting a standard

This is one of the things that Stewmac does that is second to none. Their fretwire is hard, so it lasts a long time, and if you get it in one pound increments the storage containers are great.

First fret job

By Buckone from Baltimore, Ohio

Thanks to Stewmac I felt confident to do a fret job on the new fingerboard I also purchased. After careful filing I took my guitar to an approved martin luthier and he congratulated me on a good, first time fret job with quality materials. Thanks Stewmac
