About This Item

.080" to .095"
Medium widths are the most popular (used extensively by Martin, Fender and Gibson). #0148 Medium is our best seller.

Order fretwire by the pound for tidy savings!
Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

The fretwire arrived nice and straight, perfect for my classical guitar. This was my first re-fretting job, and the wire plus the tools I ordered made it easy. Everything arrived promptly too.

the old frets on my Les Paul had become nearly flat & hopelessly square - no more material to redress! I chose the medium fretwire, and am highly pleased. My good friend refretted the whole neck, and now it plays like a brand new guitar. the wire was easy to work with, and shaped, pressed, and dressed flawlessly.

came in a large box, for such a small item..but it came in perfect condition..so maybe there is a reason for large packaging. if there were an option to have it pre-bent for me, that would be even better, still it's easy enough to work with.if i need fretwire again i would not hesitate to order from stewmac, the order shipped same day as it was placed..kudos for that too

Brown Sugar telecaster with 152 fretwire

This is my version of telecaster with 152 fretwire. This fretwire is my first choice in all guitar that I build.

Medium high fret wire

This is it. Its the fret wire most like Gibson "jumbo" fret wire of the mid-late 50's. Its not quite as wide as modern jumbo fret wire and low enough that you wont have to level it down to get to vintage height (unless you want the feel of very worn frets).

Seems to be good

I just finished my 1952 Telecaster copy and used this wire and it seems to be pretty good. I had some issues with a couple pieces seating into the fret board but overall seems pretty good. I am curious to see how well it holds up.

This wire works great. And is tall enough to level and still have plenty of material to crown and polish.
