About This Item

.080" to .095"
Medium widths are the most popular (used extensively by Martin, Fender and Gibson). #0148 Medium is our best seller.

Order fretwire by the pound for tidy savings!
Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

Medium High works best for me

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I've used this wire on scratch builds and refret jobs. It installs easily and seems to hold up well. I have found that two lenghts (4 feet) has consistently been enough for one guitar with up to 22 frets. I like the little bit of extra height with the medium high.

fretwire, highest

I was worried that the width wouldn't be sufficient and the tang wasn't sufficient, but the wire installed just fine and the new guitar sounds great.

Good sized frets on a Dreadnaught

By

I bought this size for my first ever refret. Honestly I chose the size based on the description "Dan's Favorite...". The wire radiuses well, hammered into the slots and held just fine. After flat filing and radiusing, it polishs up and looks awesome. Attached is a pic of the refret before I polished the frets.

great fret wire

you will need to slightly over-radius this wire prior to cutting to length and installing. i cut a small slot (just big enough for the tang to slide through)in the top corner edge of my bench top and slid the wire through apllying enough pressure to achieve the right radius

Always Reliable

Stew Mac fretwire is always reliable and easy to use. I am always assured that the wire will get to me and still be straight, it never has blemishes or problems of any kind. The amount of different sizes makes it a breeze for any project. I would definitely use stew macs saws and mitre boxes to be sure everything will work together well.

medium fret wire

Just finished my first guitar. I was expecting the fingerboard to take a day or so but using Stewmac's Japanese Fret Saw and Mitre Box with their Medium Fretwire, it took me only a few hours to do. It is one of the highlights of my guitar and is better than the fingerboards on my other two very nice guitars.
