About This Item

.080" to .095"
Medium widths are the most popular (used extensively by Martin, Fender and Gibson). #0148 Medium is our best seller.

Order fretwire by the pound for tidy savings!
Our bulk fretwire is supplied in convenient clear storage tubes, to keep your wire organized and your workbench uncluttered. You'll save 50% or more when you order fretwire by the pound.

Instrument makers and repair shops rely on us for the highest quality 18% nickel-silver fretwire. We supply our fretwire in 2-foot straight lengths. Order 6 feet for a complete guitar or bass fret job, and 4 feet for a mandolin, banjo or ukulele.

Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.

Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

This is the standard for fretwire

I ordered a small batch of medium fretwire to complete an acoustic guitar build. The wire arrived quickly and was well-packaged. I unboxed the fretwire and sized it, and it was right on the money. Once I wiped it down with naptha (always a good idea, especially if you use glue in any part of your fretting process!), it installed smoothly with no surprises. I have been using fretwire from StewMac since 1977 and it is consistently good. I have never had a problem with it.

These frets are the way to go

Just finished my twelve fret job, and every one turned out great. My guitar always have low action, and to get that you need uniform fret wire. If your neck is level, then stew Mac fret wire gives you good results. Very little leveling, and easy recrowning.
