Seals clear and sands easy

By

Fast, high building and yet, drys clear. I usually pore fill with this product by brushing it on straight of of the can. Wait a full day and sand back to wood, then a spray coat to level. I have not seen collapse of the product in the pores, but I also don't rush the build process and give each level more than enough time to dry between coats. Sanding does produce lots of white dusk - use a mask.
I use Behlen family of products exclusively on all of my guitar finishing and never had any compatibility issues.

Laying down on the job.....

I had a guitar with finish incompatibility and it was driving me crazy.....a simple sunburst repair that ended in me stripping and refinishing the top completely after using every trick in the book to correct...only to find the problems started to reappear again. So I stripped it again and tried BNVS...this has now been on the guitar for a year and looks awesome....problem solved!

buyer beware

The name is misleading. I'm building a pearloid model banjo (style 11). With the painstaking graphics applied and ready for sealing this vinyl Behlen vinyl sealer was applied over the graphics. Then after a couple of days, masked to paint the blue neck and resonator walls. Next step was to begin the process of clear coating (final finish). Shot a couple of light coats to get started. Removed the masking tape from the pearloid. With it came the sealer coat everywhere except under the graphics themselves. This resulted in a plateau of finish buildup over each graphic. I had to strip the graphics off with thinner and start all over. Very frustrating and much time wasted. On a positive note, the sealer applied directly to bare wood seems to do fine.

Excellent, works great

I've used this now on several projects, and it works so well I'll never use anything else if I'm using nitrocellulose lacquer. As a hobbyist, I use low-end spray equipment; the guns I use are so cheap they're practically disposable, and even with these it sprays great right from the can. It sands easily enough, but the big difference between this and lacquer-based sealers is you get immediate, consistent build from the first finish coat, especially on close-grained woods like maple or alder.

VERY easy to apply and forgiving. I brushed the first thin coat on expecting to have a lot of sanding to do afterward...WRONG! On drip was all that I had and sanding was a breeze. Second coat was reduced 50-50 and sprayed on. Easy as pie and no runs on my fiddle. One more coat after I do the inlays and I'll be ready for my Behlen lacquer finish

After i started using a decent compressor, the stuff was brilliant. Thinned it 50-50. Before that it looked like I blew snot all over the guitar...

Hmmm

Haven't quite figured this stuff out, but it seems to work fine as a prep/primer under the stringed instrument nitro.
