ColorTone Touch-up Marker

About This Item

Genuine nitrocellulose guitar lacquer, easy to use
Easily repair minor finish dings and scratches. When that heartbreaking first ding appears on your new guitar, these convenient ColorTone touchup pens come to the rescue. No brushing, no spraying!

The applicator tip on the marker is reversible. One end has a flat surface for broad strokes. Remove the tip and flip it around for pin-point application.

Use Clear Gloss for repairs in clear finishes, for spot-sealing tints, and to mask bindings before you stain the surrounding wood. Aged Clear has a subtle tint to match old finishes.

The tinted lacquers are transparent. They're great for touching up sunbursts and finishes where the wood grain shows through. They match the colors in our ColorTone Aerosol Guitar Lacquers.

Blond and TV Yellow are vintage classics. Sometimes called toners, these finishes are semi-opaque to allow some grain to show through.

The Black pen is the quick fix for scratched pegheads, and Sonic Blue is a match for the classic Fender solid color of the same name.

A word of caution:
Nitrocellulose lacquer melts into itself, making it ideal for nearly invisible touchups on lacquer finishes. But that also means there is potential to disturb or damage the existing finish. Experiment with the markers on scrap wood to get a feel for their flow and application before attempting a repair on your guitar.

Warning! Lacquer under pressure
Our new touch up pens differ from the felt tipped marker type we previously stocked. These pens contain nitrocellulose lacquer that is under pressure. It is very important to relieve the pressure built up from shaking it prior to use by pressing down on the tip with the pen in the upright position. This will prevent the pen from flooding your work with excess lacquer.

One warning

As others have said, be careful the first few times you use this as pressing on the tip releases way too much lacquer. It gets better after a few uses.

Paint definitely under pressure, I used a piece of plastic to pool paint on and applied with toothpick. Will probably take several coats.

I agree with Mando1, if you buy this product make sure you have a professional do the touchup. The lacquer will spill and it is a very expensive repair.

When you push on the tip the Lacquer spills out, don't push on tip near the instrument as it could ruin the finish

Should Have Bought This Sooner!

This is perfect for touching up those oops!, I wish I would have placed a cloth under the wrench while changing and adjusting the bridge hardware on my Les Paul. I mean this Touch-up Marker is AWESOME! Before I purchased this from StewMac I had already spent around $75 on scratch & repair kits that fortunately I didn't use yet. Because they could have made the small areas that I carelessly scratched up turn into large areas. With the Clear Touch-up Marker I applied a couple of applications and it did the job! I wish I would have purchased this sooner and saved $$. Thank You StewMac!!

Great product, but be warned . . .

My LP received some slight cosmetic issues resulting in some paint/finish damage...it's black and I took a chance on this product. At first it seemed to be blending like a dream. After drying however it was clear where the product was used ( different shades of black ). I suppose for very small touch ups this is not too bad but for anything larger (say the size of a push pin diameter ) . . the color match will not work well IMHO.
Watch the StewMac video and I HIGHLY recommend to use a separate paint brush to apply the paint as the felt tip plunger of the pen actually fell out when I went to apply it and, yes.....a huge amount of paint came out onto my guitar....ouch !

Convenience in a Marker

I recently had to touch up a few dings on a strat. The touch-up markers made the task easy. A little tape, the touch-up markers, a little super glue, and a little finish work and the dings have virtually disappeared.
