ColorTone Liquid Pigment for Lacquer

About This Item

Brilliant concentrated colors! These concentrated pigments mix in clear lacquer to produce opaque (solid) colors.

They're ideal for solidbody guitar finishes; you can experiment with pigment combinations to produce infinite colors.

ColorTone® Pigments mix with clear filler, clear sealer, and clear finishes to create opaque custom products. Two or more colors can be combined to make a variety of shades. After spraying the color coats, spray clear lacquer topcoats for depth and high gloss. These pigments are not for use with alcohol base, waterbase, or varnish finishes.

4-ounce bottles.

Worked great on Piano and guitar combo.

By

I used ColorTone white liquid pigment for lacquer on my latest homemade hollow body jazz guitar along with matching white mini baby grand piano that I also built to house a digital keyboard. They sound and look beautiful together. Now all I have to do is make a white acoustic bass next.

Just what you need

If you're attempting a butterscotch blonde finish or even a vintage blonde finish look no further. These are the toners you need, they work perfectly with nitrocellulose lacquer allowing you to get just the right shading to achieve that great old vintage look.

Great stuff!

These opaque pigments are truly excellent in nitro lacquer. I've used them to create myriad colors by simply squirting them into a container of lacquer, no fuss- no muss, not even doing much measuring! Be sure to start with lighter pigments first when creating colors. I just bought the 3 primaries, white, and black. All I needed.

Pretty nice

This is nice pigment. Be advised that it takes a while to get ratios right for different colors. Some of them, a little goes a long ways, some you need to use a lot. Pigmented paint or nitro won't flow as smoothly through spray equipment so take extra care when cleaning.

Fixing Dried out bottles

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I love these pigments and have used them for years. One problem however is that they tend to dry out in the bottle after 9 months or so making them hard or impossible to use. To indefinitely lengthen their shelf life re-liquify them with some Glycol Ether DPM. That's a solvent used to clean spray foam guns and not so surprisingly used in the paint and dye industry as a suspension. It's exactly what makes this type of Colortone pigment liquid.

helpful. there are other pigments out there but this is a nice addition to any guitar finish person's tools. the red, black and yellow work well to give that slightly opaque color like old fender's have.

Smaller sizes?

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Love the ColorTone pigment products! A little goes a long way but, since I'm a small shop, that can be a 2-sided coin... The shelf-life on the product is about a year at best, so I have to replace the 4oz. bottles before they're used-up. I'd like to see them also available in either 1 or 2oz bottles to accommodate the more infrequent user.

Hard to Mix

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I found the black pigment a bit difficult to properly mix to a uniform consistency just by stirring. Works fine once mixed but will be very streaky otherwise.
