Excellent stuff!

Fantastic for cleaning, and for flashing wood to get an idea of its finished figure while it's still in the raw. Good stuff, but still hazardous; Be careful, wear gloves, and work with good ventilation. This is some of my favorite stuff for cleaning body-grease off of really crusty guitars.

Many people tout Naphtha as an agent to remove adhesives, such as from stickers. It does, but I've always found it to have merely acceptable performance in this regard. I've found several finish-safe materials that perform far better in this regard and would only recommend Naphtha for such a use as a third or fourth option, in lieu of more effective agents.

The packaging may leave something to be desired, as one shipment of Naphtha I ordered had been crushed in shipping, causing one of the bottles to leak. However, Stew Mac has excellent customer service and immediately replaced the bottle with zero hassle. Additionally, that has only occurred on one shipment of Naphtha, and I've placed over a half-dozen orders in the past few years.

Needs to be packed better.

My naphtha arrived in a crushed box. The top of the can was dented and some of the product had leaked. The paper in the box didn't do a good enough job of protecting. Very hazardous.

Naphtha a/k/a lighter fluid.
Been using it for years to clean instruments.
Never a problem or damage to any finish.

Safe on nitrocellulose lacquer!

By

I tried this product as recommended by my luthier, and wow, it worked great. My guitar is a matte finish nitrocellulose lacquer, and the top had a layer of mineral deposit from ultrasonic humidifiers, combined with everyday grit. I was hesitant to try anything rougher than elbow grease. Here's how the top came out, with decades of grime - gone!

Excellent cleaning solvent

It's no "GOO-BE-GONE" and that's lucky because that stuff doesn't clean a guitar finish in between coats. I have refinished and new finished several mandolins, guitars and basses and Naphtha is hands down the best cleaner when you're not looking for stripper. And hopefully you don't see the results, that's the idea! Use this stuff it just plain works.

No Visible Results

I attempted to remove glue residue from my 50-yr old Gibson flat-top and its pickguard, which had fallen off. Could not see any significant results. There was not a lot of residue, so I re-attached the pickguard with no further cleaning... hope it lasts.
