About our mahogany neck blanks
Used in traditional guitarmaking, genuine mahogany is very stable, dense, and is one of the best woods for woodworking; it sands easily, routered edges stay crisp and sharp, and it accepts stains and finish. Unsurpassed working and finishing qualities.

While international trade of mahogany is becoming more restricted, the search for comparable alternatives has been ongoing. Sipo is the closest we are finding to the traditional mahogany that does not have any restrictions to shipping it worldwide.

  • 1-piece solid wood
  • Carefully selected
  • Kiln dried
  • Quartersawn

Our online instructions Neck Construction Tips and Techniques include tips for adding headstock "ears," routing for a truss rod, laminating a classical guitar heel, and more.

Good material.

I'm making a 6 string tenor ukulele. This block is slightly too small to get two necks out of. I would consider cutting into into slabs next time to get better use of the wood.

Very nice quarter-sawn mahogany, will easily yield two one-piece tenor ukulele necks. Great price!

Great for plugs!

I bought this so I'd have a big chunk of decent mahogany to make plugs for solid body guitar repairs. I've a vintage 1973 Gibson SG come in the shop that got COMPLETELY (bleeped!) up by another repair shop in the area. He doweled the original bridge and tailpiece studs location and drilled new holes to place both pieces of hardware in the wrong place AND crooked? File under: WHY? Anyway, I never use dowels to plug holes because the grain is incorrect. This chunk of wood was perfect to make 1/2" and 11mm straight plugs to correct a shade tree luthier's attempt at repairs. Do it right or don't do it, right?
