Slotted Fingerboard for Gibson

About This Item

24.562" scale • 12" radius • 24 slots
Note: Gibson® guitar scale is commonly referred to as 24-3/4" but is actually 24.562".

This is the most common of three different scales described as 24-3/4" by Gibson over the years. Many Gibson's have alternate scale lengths—please measure your guitar before ordering!

Tip: For 20-fret necks, simply cut off the four highest slots.

Gibson® 24-3/4" scale changes over the years
The Gibson 24-3/4" scale is one of the most common, and most confusing of all scale lengths-this is because it rarely ever measures out to be 24-3/4 inches! This scale has gradually changed over the past fifty or so years due to changes in production equipment.

Learn more about scale length and how scale length affects tone.

Our kiln-dried fingerboards have flat undersides, are unfretted (no inlays), and ready for trimming to fit a variety of neck widths.

Approximate dimensions: 2-3/8" x 18-1/2" x 15/64" (60.32mm x 469.90mm x 5.95mm)
Scale: 24.562" (623.87mm)
Radius: 12" (304.80mm)
Fret slots: 24 slots, 0.023" wide (0.58mm). Ready to accept our fretwire.

Important:
Ebony is usually not uniformly black.
We offer Black Fingerboard Stain, as used by Gibson®, Paul Reed Smith® and other makers for darkening the streaks on ebony fingerboards, bridges and peghead overlays.

Received fretboard on Friday. It was cracked at a fret slot. Called StewMac, they apologized, shipped a new one out, I received it on Monday. That response convinced me they are the only place to buy parts and tools.

Only the best service.

I have to say, sometimes in this day and age we are a little misled about the term 'the best'. I purchased this shorter scale Gibson style fretboard for my daughter's instrument. I had also purchased a few other items at that time, and because it was for my daughter's guitar, I asked that they be shipped to her. I paid for the items thinking all was good, however the fretboard wasn't delivered. I contacted StewMac and informed them of this, and without question one was sent out immediately, and they paid the expedited shipping costs. I realize mistakes are made everyday, and obviously the original fretboard wasn't shipped. Still, I have to say this service is second to none. Thank you StewMac! Oh....and the fretboard was exactly what I was looking for as well.

Dimensions are exact, printed my plans and the slots align perfectly. Saves a bunch of work and cost since I'm just building one for myself and don't want to invest in tools I'll never use again. So far I've just laid out my neck and tapered the fingerboard on my table saw. I decided on the rosewood because I like the grain and color. My old Gibson acoustic has a rosewood fingerboard that has aged really well, the patina gives it warm look. I have not yet glued it on. I'm making my dots from maple and just haven't got that far yet. I also plan to use the fingerboard as my template for routing the sides of the neck. Just not that far yet.

Excellent boards

I've ordered several of these boards and they are always spot on when it come to radius and scale. I did receive one board that had some gouging on the edges, but that was outside the dimensions of the neck so no-harm/no-foul. The grain pattern on the boards that I have received has been consistently excellent. It saves me a lot of time having to radius, mark and slot the board myself. So its worth the cost as I can spend that time on other tasks in my guitar building.
