Build your dream guitar! Our swamp ash blanks are the perfect starting point for making your own solidbody guitar or bass.

They're joined, thickness-sanded, and ready for bandsawing and routing in your shop.

Approximate dimensions: 13-3/4" x 20-1/2" x 1-3/4" (349.25mm x 520mm x 44.45mm)

Swamp ash has bold grain that's appropriate for clear or tinted finishes. It's lighter in weight than Northern "baseball bat" ash, for good tone. Ash is open-grained, and filler should be used to level the pores before applying a finish. This is a joined 2-piece blank.

Ok my last review on the swamp ash was correct. but upon calling Customer Service and voicing my disappointment to my surprise they told me they would send me three more blanks, they even went and hand picked the blanks and sent them and supplied a postage paid return box to sent back the other blanks. My apologies Stewmac and Thank you. Henry

very average

In the picture and first caption you read on the body blanks was the impression this was a solid piece of wood not two halves glued together. I even got a blank that was three pieces of wood glued together. Then the grain on two blanks were not matched. very disappointed in this as now I have to thickness sand and put a veneer top on them.

sorry, but i'm not happy with this wood it's not so heavy, but not light as much as i expetted it to be , i purchased swamp elsewhere in the past tha was half the weight of this piece, but what was aweful was the grain match...a blind would have done it better...in the end i'l always buy from stewmac, but surelly not this ash!

My first fully hand-made and crafted electric guitar. I love natural wood and this is a nice example!

Beautiful Timber

I purchased a Swamp Ash Body Blank in order to satisfy my taste for the ultimate sound and to showcase my handywork. What I recieived from Stewmac was a perfect 2 piece Blank with beautiful figure to the grain. It was also nice and light weight. The best was still to come when I got to string up and hear all the characteristics that I was hoping to achieve. Thank you for supplying such a wonderful product. I will definitely be purchasing again and recommending Stewmac!

The foundation of a great guitar.

I have built and played many great guitars from Stewmac's Ash bodies and think they are of great quality and sound. For a 2 piece body their grain doesn't always match perfect, however without tracking down and hand-picking one-off pieces individually, these do the job nicely.

Not swamp ash!

By Peter Naglitsch from Sweden

I agree with the previous reviewer in most parts. The wood have a nice grain pattern and the joint is nicely done. However there is no way that this can classify as ôswamp ashö. I am very well aware that there is no specie that is called swamp ash and therefore open for discussions.

However I have received a body blank that weight in on 4.6 kg/10.1 lb! On top of that the tap tone is a dull ôthudö and not the ringing open airy tone I expect from ôtrueö swamp ash. I have bought swamp ash bodies from SM before a they have been significantly lighter, making for example one of the lightest telecasters I have ever experienced, even though I have the added weight of a Bigsby on it. This will make a heavy 70Æs style Tele body and should never have been advertised as swamp ash in the first place, rather as standard weight ash to separate it from heavier pieces.

So IÆm sorry to say but this item is, as it was advertised as swamp ash, sub standard.

Couldn't be better

You won't get a better piece of ash for this price. The only way to make this any more user friendly would be if it would read your mind and carve itself.
