Disappointed in the lack of figuring.

StewMac shipped my order real fast and I got the item within 3 days from DHL. I live in Sydney, Australia. Unfortunately the piece I got had very little figuring. There are some decent flames on the edge but they don't extend all around the neck after I carved it. I also tried to pop the figure by dyeing it brown and sanding back but this wasn't enough.

The flamed maple top and the ebony fretboard I received were very good though. Maybe I just happened to be unlucky.

Amazing quality!

I bought a curly maple for making a replacement fingerboard for my Strat. The quality is outstanding, now my guitar is a real eye-catcher! Thanks a lot, Stewart-MacDonald! Will shop again!

I have been using StewMac's Maple necks exclusively. Pre-cut for all your bolt-on/set-in necks and are top quality...I will most certainly be buying again...and again...and again.

Decent

Nice clean looking Maple - no knots or defects. I've bought 4 so far - wish they were planed to an even thickness. some are more warped than others so to get them true means making some thinner than expected. I think for the price they are ok, but I will be buying from somewhere else in the future that has slightly larger dimensions to compensate for the chance of boards that are not completely flat and true.

Strong, solid wood.

I've purchased a few of these now, and they always arrive straight and flat. Not had any issues with them being warped or bowed, even though they are being shipped a fair distance. The necks have all turned out looking and feeling great. Highly recommended.

Sanded up beautifully, looks great. Slightly cupped when i got it but a scraper cleaned it up.

I've ordered about half a dozen of these neck blanks. Half of them were nice, but some had some pretty substantial and unacceptable planer snipe. Stew Mac Customer Service was prompt and curtious returning the blanks.

Could be better

This maple is as flatsawn as it gets, bogus stuff ( if your into the whole quatersawn thing ). Not only that the blank on one end was thinner ( on both sides of the one end ) which drove me nuts.

Flame maple

Not the best maple for a neck blank. Definitely on the soft side for sugar maple. The curly maple neck blank I ordered dented easily, due to the softness of the wood. Also, this is not really thick enough for a one piece maple neck. Pros: Came well dimensioned and flat, nice flamey figure to the wood. Cons: Wood did warp slightly while it acclimated to my shop, it is wood and this does happen, but not the most stable wood I've bought. On the softer side of sugar maple, and dented easily. Flat sawn, would be nice if they offered quarter sawn or rift sawn. Also, not thick enough for one piece maple neck.

Ok but could get better

Good piece of wood but it did bend slightly when i left it for a while. this may just be because i'm in England so to any UK Luther it's probably best to get your wood locally
