Kerfed Guitar Linings

About This Item

We offer traditional angle-cut linings with kerfing that faces outward, and a newer radiused style with reverse kerfing.

The reverse style can add more stiffness to the sides, and a smoother appearance inside the body.

Traditional kerfed linings
7/32" x 9/16" x 15-1/2"
(5.56mm x 14.29mm x 393.70mm)
Reverse kerfed linings
7/32" x 5/8" x 16"
(5.56mm x 15.88mm x 406.40mm)

Kerfed lining ("kerfing") forms a surface for gluing and reinforcing a guitar's soundboard, sides and back. Each lining is kerfed (slotted) to allow easy bending to fit a guitar's curved sides.

Dreadnought and National™ style guitars require eight strips. Dobro® and soundwell instruments require twelve strips. Specially sized kerfed lining for mandolins (also for dulcimers) are available.

Don't like the short lengths

By

Verified Buyer

I didn't notice that they were so short. Nobody else sells them this short. SM should either sell them in lengths that just about every other supplier uses, emphasize the short lengths in the description, or add something to the effect that 6 to 8 are needed for a guitar. Pricing is pretty steep for such short lengths too.

wish I had seen the size before ordering

The kerfing itself is nice quality, I just wish I had scrolled all the way down the page and seen that it is short sections, not the full length needed to do 1 side of a guitar. I would not have ordered it. Evidently other people have had the same issue so I think Stew Mac should consider listing the size with the price.

Horrible sizing for the price

By

I can't believe that I have to buy 6 or more units to finish a guitar. This is highway robbery, make a shallow depth template on your bandsaw and make your own

Now with more shortness

By

Verified Buyer

I bought a bunch of these back in December of 2015 and they were twice as long...for half the price...

Beware of the new shorter length.

Response from StewMac

Our kerfed linings have been the same length for as long as we can remember and the price has been the same since May of 2015. You may be thinking of another source.
