Natural Wood Bindings

About This Item

Beautiful hardwood bindings are a natural accent preferred by many contemporary luthiers.

Each unbent strip is approximately 0.080" thick, 0.250" tall and 33-1/2" long (2.03mm x 6.35mm x 850.90mm). The optional triple lamination is .010"/.020"/.010" white and black fiber.

For matching top purfling, choose our Violin Purfling Set.

Note: Cocobolo is a naturally oily wood. For best results, clean with acetone and glue with epoxy or super glue.

Ebony with maple stripes

By

Verified Buyer

These binding strips were very easy to work with. They bent well without heating or steaming. The white lines are very subtle, but attractive. A very nice touch that can show off your craftsmanship if you can line them up properly (neck binding with body). They were also very easy to scrape to size where necessary. Great product

The ebony bindings I recently ordered were all uniformly jet-black, straight, and precisely milled.
Highly recommended, especially if you purchase in quantity.

Bloodwood doesn't bend

By

No amount of steam allowed the bloodwood to bend and I use steam and vapor vapor so hot it will take your skin off in a less than a second. Struggling with binding while dealing with steam is dangerous, failure is irritating or painful.

Great quality... double-check the laminated purfling size

By

Verified Buyer

I've used these on several guitars and appreciate the quality. I've found the laminated perfling strip to be .06 instead of .04 as listed though. For most, that may not be relevant but if you're planning to match it with your tail piece wedge, you'll want a strip of the .06 perfling to match it with.

Beware Runnout

some of these bindings- especially the maple have really short grain and break easily when bending. the maple is pretty but not when it cracks every three inches.

First wood binding on Virgil Guitars! It's a bit tricky, but with patience, anything is possible.
