this worked like a champ. Just drill the hole the right size, drive the rod in, cut it flush, and scrape. Perfect installation on the D35.

These smaller sticks work well for me, and I found a extra use for them. I had to remove frets and recut them on 2 different guitars, and I was really concerned of doing this, as the grand kids who picked those guitars as theirs didn't want me to risk the recuts. I wanted their instrument to play all the way down the neck and properly. I removed all the frets with care(first to only move a 16"), took a few of the 16th inch rod sticks and hammered them flat on my anvil, hammered just to size and slipped them in tight of the old fret cuts after which hit with CA glue.....shave and sand, plus black leather die to the fret boards. They are now invisible. New cuts and new frets....all is well. Can't be seen or felt.

Oversize!

This 1/16" side dot material is actually 0.064" in diameter (1/16 = 0.0625), so my new 1/16" drill bit was not used. I had to choose between a #51 (0.067") and a #52 (0.0635") drill bit, both of which were undersized by .001". I went with the #52 and carefully chamfered the edges of the bottom side of the dot so it would go into the holes with pressure.
