Hex Truss Rod Wrenches

About This Item

Heavy-duty wrenches for hex truss rod nuts, including the familiar 5/16" Gibson® rod. 10-3/4" (27.31cm) overall length keeps your knuckles safely away from the peghead.

Our veteran guitar technicians developed these high quality steel truss rod wrenches for the repair shop. The length, comfortable rubberized handles, durability, and variety of sizes let you perform truss rod adjustments efficiently.

Not all truss rod cavities are the same width. Make sure the wrench will fit your cavity by comparing the outer diameter of the wrench barrel to your guitar.

Wrench Outer diameter
#6101 For 1/4" nut 0.390" (9.91mm)
#6102 For 9/32" nut 0.410" (10.41mm)
#6103 For 5/16" nut 0.440" (11.18mm)

These tools are available in our money-saving Truss Rod Wrench Set.

Does exactly what it's supposed to to in a situation that doesn't offer a lot of other options. Glad I chose this version of their wrench because of the handle comfort, and with the handle 'in-line', you aren't as apt to have too much torque like other 90 degree wrenches. If you need more torque on a truss rod wrench than what this provides, you most likely shouldn't be using it in the first place. This wrench really gives me a sense of how much torque I'm using in the moment - with comfort in my aging hands.

Hex Truss Rod Wrenches

Worked great on 620 Rickenbacker. I thought I was going to have to take out some wood under the nut, but the wrench made it into the tight spot perfectly and the long handle helped get a perfect balance with the two truss rods. Immediately ordered the two other wrenches for future use.

I needed a 5/16" truss rod wrench for my Gibson ES-339. The StewMac wrench I ordered was a perfect fit. The only suggestion I can make is to shorten the overall length of the shaft so that the wrench can fit into the guitar case storage compartment. As a shop wrench or home wrench, the current StewMac design is very well made and comfortable to use. I purchased the range of sizes - price is very reasonable and quality is excellent.

This is THE tool you need for headstock truss rod nuts. I was surprised at the size and how well this is engineered. Wish I’d bought this sooner. Will be adding the other sizes as needed.

Does not fit my Rickenbacker 4003 bass

By

I bought the 1/4 inch wrench for my 2011 Rickenbacker 4003 bass and I cannot get it to fit on either of the truss rod nuts. I confidently bought this wrench as I had seen comments here confirming that it fits 4003 truss nuts. I have also seen this wrench sold by StewMac on Amazon, claiming it fits 4003s.

However, there appears to be insufficient clearance between the truss nuts and the head stock on my bass. I tried every which way, except for trying to ram it on with a hammer. Waste of $25 shipping this wrench to Canada. I gave three stars as it looks like a quality wrench otherwise.

1/4" works great for Rickenbacker truss rod adjustments!

Rickenbacker guitars and basses don't come with truss rod wrenches. You can buy a 1/4" hex wrench from Rickenbacker to adjust the truss rods...for $29. I asked Stew Mac if this would work, they said yes, and indeed it does. A must-have if you own or find yourself setting up Rickenbackers.

Much more control and a steady grip and feel on the rod adjustment.
Treat yourself these are definitely worth it if you do setup and maintenance on a regular basis.

Good overall design.

I like this wrench's length and excellent grip. The depth of the nut pocket was too shallow to use on my Epiphone. I had to modify the pocket depth by putting it on a lathe and drilling it deeper. It worked very well after that.
