Guitar Repair Vise

About This Item

The luthier's favorite vise is even easier to use, thanks to custom modifications: bearing-smooth operation, fast crank handwheel, and urethane/hardwood swivel jaws.

Custom modifications make it the best!
Don't mistake our vise for one of the many copycats! We've customized our Guitar Repair Vise to give it bearing-smooth operation that you won't find elsewhere. Turn the fast-crank handwheel and you'll immediately feel the difference.

Customized four ways:
1. Fast-crank handwheel with removable handle
2. Roller bearings for fast smooth opening/closing
3. Protective urethane surfaces on custom hardwood jaws
4. Nylon-core adjustable tension nuts control 360° jaw rotation

A good vise is the central hub of your workshop. Every repair or building job benefits from a solid, secure vise, and if it's actually a pleasure to use that's all the better!

Our Guitar Repair Vise is 32 pounds of steel that rotates full-circle to position the work for comfortable access. Each inch-thick hardwood jaw rotates too, with forgiving urethane surfaces to hold instruments of any shape/any size. This vise holds the tapered angles of a neck securely without needing any shims. Nylon-core adjustment nuts set the tension on the rotating jaws, so you can let them spin loosely or hold their angle. The vise jaws open to a maximum of 6" (15.24cm).

We've built in a roller bearing so the vise opens and adjusts smoothly - and added a crank handle to make it speedy. (The handle's conveniently removable, too.)

The sturdy base can be installed under your workbench for 8" vise height, or on top for 9-3/4" height. The threaded mounting rod and large wingnut mount the vise quickly on any benchtop up to 4-1/2" thick. Use a 11/16" bit to make a clean hole through your bench.

This device has potential for excellence; developing technique to stop vertical and horizontal play when opening or closing jaws. Clearly, customers know quality then sellers must ensure the very best products go to market...

Certainly my most used luthiery tool. I don't know how I got along with out one for so long. If you don't have one, buy one.

I got this last Fall and use it all the time. It is very well designed.I can't imagine building again without it. I didn't give it 5 stars due to the casting issue that others have mentioned. The casting could be much better. Having a nylon washer in between the base and the vise would also help a lot. I would buy one again.

Every instrument bench needs this vise. Robust and works great. It's your third and fourth hands.

When it was time to install the tuners on the neck, to stringing it up, it made things SO MUCH easier. And it's easy to remove when I have other woodworking projects to do. Heck, it may come in handy on some of those projects as well.

Very Nice, and improved over the one I bought 20 years ago.

Works well. The phenolic pads on the wood jaws are a nice touch. The action is smooth. I had one of the older green ones and this one seems a bit better.

Not a bad vise but, as someone that has worked as a pattern maker, really poor quality castings.
Must be the Asian connection.More profits for less quality.

Better than I thought it would be.

I purchased this vise after putting it off a long time because of the price but finally bit the bullet and took the plunge. I do have to say that functionally it is REALLY good. It holds all sorts of shapes because of the rotating jaws and holds them plenty tight. Overall a great addition to my small basement shop. I give it only 4 stars because for the price I expected a little better in the fit and finish department. It came loose in a half open box and has all sorts of dings and such in the red paint. However, it works flawlessly. 4 stars and a recommended buy if you're on the fence.

We do a lot of carving of odd shaped pieces. This vise is perfect for that.
