Guitar Repair Vise

About This Item

The luthier's favorite vise is even easier to use, thanks to custom modifications: bearing-smooth operation, fast crank handwheel, and urethane/hardwood swivel jaws.

Custom modifications make it the best!
Don't mistake our vise for one of the many copycats! We've customized our Guitar Repair Vise to give it bearing-smooth operation that you won't find elsewhere. Turn the fast-crank handwheel and you'll immediately feel the difference.

Customized four ways:
1. Fast-crank handwheel with removable handle
2. Roller bearings for fast smooth opening/closing
3. Protective urethane surfaces on custom hardwood jaws
4. Nylon-core adjustable tension nuts control 360° jaw rotation

A good vise is the central hub of your workshop. Every repair or building job benefits from a solid, secure vise, and if it's actually a pleasure to use that's all the better!

Our Guitar Repair Vise is 32 pounds of steel that rotates full-circle to position the work for comfortable access. Each inch-thick hardwood jaw rotates too, with forgiving urethane surfaces to hold instruments of any shape/any size. This vise holds the tapered angles of a neck securely without needing any shims. Nylon-core adjustment nuts set the tension on the rotating jaws, so you can let them spin loosely or hold their angle. The vise jaws open to a maximum of 6" (15.24cm).

We've built in a roller bearing so the vise opens and adjusts smoothly - and added a crank handle to make it speedy. (The handle's conveniently removable, too.)

The sturdy base can be installed under your workbench for 8" vise height, or on top for 9-3/4" height. The threaded mounting rod and large wingnut mount the vise quickly on any benchtop up to 4-1/2" thick. Use a 11/16" bit to make a clean hole through your bench.

How did I live without this?

By
(Customer's Reviews)

15 years I built and repaired guitars without one of these. What a moron I was. This is worth EVERY PENNY and more. I got it with the stand and with the body board. I figured I could probably make a body board myself, but I'd rather get paid to fix guitars than spend time hacking around with plywood and lag bolts. Positively one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Guitar bench vise

Pretty useful tool. But it doesn't have the grabbing power of a genuine vise, which is good because it won't ding up wood yet serves a good purpose for neck elwork and the like. It's way overbuilt, which is also nice. If you do a lot of guitar or uke work this will make it easier!

What a perfect tool for so many jobs... I wish I had got this sooner. I love that I can maneuver a guitar into any position i need for whatever job I'm doing. And I love the non-marring jaws...such a great time-saver. And it's solid. Terrific, and highly recommended.

I was skeptical, but this vise is really a game changer. It holds anything without marring or undue pressure, and I use it daily. Well worth the money.

Guitar Repair Vise

The vise works well at holding the guitar for many repair operations, although it is a little tall from the surface it is mounted to. A simple bench riser will remedy this situation. Not as versatile as a Kimble, but a good vise for the money. Clean it well with naphtha before using and you will have a secure foundation to work from.

A must-have for guitar workbench

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I started repairing and restoring guitars about five years ago and finally built a workbench specifically designed for that purpose. I have bought a lot of tools and supplies from Stew Mac over the years so I have nearly everything I need to to pursue my passion for guitar work. This vice is absolutely a must-have for anyone who works on guitars on a regular basis. The ability to rotate the vice, makes it super-useful too. The only caution I have is make sure you have a good grip on the guitar neck before you loosen the vice. The steel tracks could really damage a neck if it drops onto the them. I speak from experience, but got lucky and didn't gouge the neck of the first guitar I used this for. I bought some adhesive-backed pads in the local hardware store and that adds a layer of protection in case that happens again. I love this vice and highly recommend it!

Guitar Repair Vises

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I bought one of these vises for my son who plays guitar. It was impressive how it held the guitar neck without damaging the finish due to it urethane pads and made precise adjustments possible with its well machined screw threads.
I then bought one for myself and have used it to secure flat fused glass plates without breaking in order to wrap it with copper foil prior to soldering. I expect it will work well on finished wood products I will work on in the future. Its overall weight is good to anchor the projects.
