Two Cherries Guitar Brace Chisel

About This Item

A better shape for a delicate job.
The unique "S" profile of this chisel is perfect for carving the gently curved ends on guitar braces. As the cutting edge follows the curve, the handle is lifted up to make room for your hand.

The cutting steel of this genuine Two Cherries chisel is heat-treated to Rockwell 61C-grade hardness, and fitted with a comfortably balanced wooden handle. This is a lifetime tool that holds a wickedly keen edge.

Use it for a lot more than braces.
The "S" shape is useful for flush-cutting: paring a plug or patch to the surrounding surface. It reaches over, under and around to clean dried glue from spots that can't be reached by a straight chisel.

Blade length: 5-1/4" (133mm)
Overall length: 10-1/8" (257mm)

Excellent bracing scalloping chisel!

I have always thought this chisel was a good idea, but only recently decided to make the purchase.
Wow! I should not have waited so long... Glad I now own it!

Very useful little chisel

I wasn’t expecting much from this when I picked it up, I figured if nothing else I could use it for glue cleanup, but this is super useful at getting into tight spaces when shaping top braces. It needed a bit of sharpening which is not uncommon with any new chisel, but with a little TLC this is a new favorite in my tool box.

good quality

Set of 3 chisels arrived sharp and ready to use.
Handles have no burrs and blades are well polished and sharpened for immediate use.
These chisels were not purchased for brace work but more for shaping and getting into the unique areas in a semi solid body guitar and general carpentry.
They appear to be up to the job and time will tell their value.
At this stage they carve into hard maple and mahogany as would a well sharpened conventional chisel and get into some previously unreachable areas.
Worth the time and effort to use.

Chisels, c'est moi!

I am not an experienced woodworker, but decided to take the plunge and try carving guitar braces. My "mentor" praised my choice of the brace chisels, and remarked on how sharp the were right out of the box.

Two thumbs up for Two Cherries.

Well made tool.

Well made chisel that works great after back is flattened and polished and the edge is ground and honed. Perfect design for working on braces in the guitar. I strip, sand and oil finish the handle.

This is an "only cry once tool" (if you care for them).

The price on these is very fair, and the quality if of such, that these will last a very long time. They are not the best at holding an edge, nor do they have the finest handles, but this is still very much among the top tier quality in hand tools. As the saying goes, if you spend the big money on good tools with a good reputation, and not some silly pricey fad tools, "You will only cry once", (when the credit card bill arrives). If you buy some cheaper tools, you will cry when the break in the middle of a job, and again when you pay $140 for overnight shipping on a weekend, and again when the next bill arrives. Good quality carving tools easily can add up to $10,000+ in some shops, and $10,000,000 in others. Two Cherries tools generally do NOT arrive sharp, squared, beveled, ready to go to work. Some of the Chinese tools are getting better and better, but the quality of the steel is inconsistent, so some are nice and some are pure junk. Two Cherries' steel is consistently very good+ to excellent. No guessing, & no taking chances. If you want markedly better prepare to pay markedly more money for it. Eventually you will be grinding and honing them anyway.

Two Cherries 16mm guitar brace chisel

By

I used the Two Cherries 16mm chisel to carve the cross braces for the Stew-Mac 000 series acoustic guitar kit I am finishing.
It is high quality steel and with the compound curves I was able to keep the chisel at the correct angles to make the cuts I wanted. With only a slight lapping on the cutting edge, it good to go.

Just getting started with this

I have a 12” X 3/4” vintage chisel with about a 10’ radius on the length of the blade. A great paring and carving chisel but a bit large sometimes. I’ve looking for a smaller brace carving chisel. I have a set (6) of Two Cherries that I like. This one is equal quality. I did have to regrind the primary bevel to square the blade prior to honing. Not uncommon with Two Cherries products.

Works really well

By

As I've said previously, most of my guitar making involves hand work, and chiseling away at a brace or cleaning out glue residue is commonplace in my shop. The previous curved chisel works very well, but I saw this and I liked the shorter length. So far, so good.
