Precision Straightedges

About This Item

For accurate fretting and neck evaluation.
We make our Precision Straightedges specifically for checking neck straightness and relief, evaluating truss rod adjustments, and pinpointing high or low frets. Available in four lengths, for working on any fretted instrument, from mandolins to guitars to basses.

The narrow beveled edge allows easy and accurate viewing of the gap between the edge and the surface being checked. Made of durable stainless steel with a satin finish for easy marking with a pencil, each straightedge is precision-machined for accuracy to ±.0015" per foot.

These straightedges are also ideal for laying out projects on wood or paper, and for setting up table saws, jointers and other shop equipment.

Made from surgical stainless steel, hardened and tempered for lasting accuracy.

#3850 18" Precision Straightedge is part of our Basic Setup Kit.

For acoustic guitars, our Neck Set Gauge is designed to attach to the #3799 24" Precision Straightedge.

Straightedges are not like the ones in the picture

I purchased a Stew Mac 24" striaghtedge several years ago and it is a fantastic tool. What I love most about that straightedge is the satin finish with round edges. It feels awesome in the hand and is a pleasure to use. I subsequently purchased a few more but the ones Stew Mac sells now have a brushed finish and sharp edges. They are now like the other straight edges on the market nothing special. I sent them back.

Pricey but love it

(Customer's Reviews)

I use this all the time. I see a lot of products on this site that I'm like, meh, I can use something else to accomplish the same thing, but his is one item I am glad I purchased- along with many more items that I ended up buying after my DIY tools didn't work as easy as some of the ones on here. This is a true quality, heavy, NICE piece of steel.

When is straight is straight

This straight edge is quality, you can feel it. Yes it seems pricey, and you can get cheaper straight edges made of aluminum. Though you're paying the price as they aren't usually ground flat and aluminum can warp. The worst I've seen with these cheaper straight edge is -.002/-.004 off. Meaning it's alittle concave in the middle. Anyway the stewmac Straight edge is quality and truly flat, worth it.

No flimsy straight edge

By
(Customer's Reviews)

It's a very quality stright edge. Like the beveled side. When I was trying to decide which straight edge to purchase, the 18"or the 24" I should have started with the 18". 24" is a too long for guitars. But it will work out. These stright edges are quite expensive. But you get what you pay for. I will purchase the 18" soon.

A well made precision tool

Seems expensive for a piece of metal with no markings but worth every penny if you want a perfect setup for your axe. It is a well made precision tool.
