Rock your frets

By

No guitar tech-shop should live without it. Makes deciding weather to go for a simple set-up or a fret dress, before the customer leaves the premises. Makes spotting high frets & doing -on the spot- repair, easy, while the customer waits.

SO SIMPLE YET SO ACCURATE!

Like another review I thought this might be overkill but the 3 sides make a huge difference on my basses. It was so fast finding those slightly high frets and so fast checking progress as they are filed. Worth every penny!

Fret Rocker is Rock'n Me!

I wasn't quite sure why the price was a little high for a straight edge until it arrived and I tried it out. Then I realized the time and maybe even money spent on a fret re-leveling job. As you start at the 1st fret you will need the longer straight edge section, then you gradually shift to the smaller then finally to the smallest for the highest frets. You're always able to contact 3 frets at a time, which you must have to check for one that is higher (or lower) than the adjacent ones. Now I wouldn't DARE take a long file or sanding block and file down all of the frets to get them the same height, even when you've set your relief at zero. With that approach, you MUST have your fretboard absolutely flat, and some fretboard-truss bars won't adjust the fretboard to that perfect starting point. Taylor guitars have that NT neck which allows a perfectly flat board (if you desire it), but most all the others it's a compromise since most of them have a non-movable neck past the join at the top bout. The fine adjustments for a conservative approach to correcting one or two higher frets requires just such a tool as the Fret Rocker. It's quite thick, so it's not going to bend while you're using it. Exactly what I'd expect from Dan and the S-M crew. Excellent! And don't forget to pick up one of S-M's leveler that fits right onto the fretboard while you keep the strings on. That's the other cousin to this rocker. Buy 'em both.

Precise Fret Checking

All sides work well for checking different fret heights and making sure frets are leveled. Make sure to check middle and both sides of frets though. But using the rocker is very accurate.

Another great innovation that leaves no doubt about wether or no you have a high fret. It finds them in a hurry and that saves you a lot of time. :)

A moneymaker

I find the tool very indispensable for determining if my fret dress jobs are complete, or if frets need dressing in the first place. On that end I was able to convince several customers to let me level the frets on their guitars after I show them that the frets on their Gibsons aren't level in the first place.

I thought using a straight edge was sufficient enough when it came to checking high and low frets; boy was I wrong. I couldn't believe just how unlevel my frets were until I used this handy little gadget. Worth every penny and a must when checking and leveling your own frets...BUY ONE!!!
