Japanese Curved-edge Mini Saw

About This Item

Precise spot cutting and fret slot cleaning. A handy alternative for short close-tolerance cuts where a straight blade would cause damage.

The compact curved cutting edge on this little pull-stroke backsaw makes it a good choice for precisely trimming installed braces and cleaning fret slots over a guitar body. Unlike Western saws, the traditional Japanese-cut teeth work on the pull stroke. This helps keep the thin blade taut for a smooth, accurate jam-free cut.

Sharp 2-5/8" x 7/8" x .0085" alloy steel blade (66.68mm x 22.22mm x .216mm) with rigid steel spine and wooden handle.

A fantastic saw

2 years on and i'm still loving this saw and use it with every build-
This picture better illustrates why it is good. You can use the light to perfectly see when you are about to touch the back/top wood when trimming a brace.

Perfect for trimming brace ends on the soundboard

I have been cutting brace ends on soundboards with the ends of other saws since I first started. This saw is a MUCH better tool for the job. It is sharp & makes trimming such things so easy and clean.

The first saw I reach for these days!

By

The shop where I work picked up one of these saws recently. We already have a collection of other small saws, including a couple bigger pull-saws and StewMac's little double-sided Japanese Fret Slot saw. But more and more, I find myself going for this little curved-edge saw for smaller manual-cutting jobs. It's the right width for fret slots, and the curved edge is great for things like trimming the ends of braces that are already glued into a guitar top or back.
