Single-coil Pickup Routing Templates

About This Item

Transparent acrylic templates to rout for Strat® and Tele® pickups.

Laser-cut for precise edges: Our routing templates are laser-cut for smooth edged precision, and centerlines are laser-etched when needed for correct placement.

Our 3/16" (4.76mm) transparent acrylic templates ensure proper router placement on a guitar body or pickguard, eliminate guesswork and produce cleaner results. They can be positioned with countersunk screws or double-stick tape.

Carbide-tipped Ball-bearing Router Bits are preferred for use with our templates.

These single-coil templates are also included in our Pickup/Control Cavity Routing Template Set which has ALL of our Gibson and Fender pickup routing shapes plus control cavities.

Bought the Tele bridge template to tighten up some inconsistencies on an aftermarket body. Worked like a charm.

T-style Route Template

By

Verified Buyer

I recently had a need for a T-Style template to route for the bridge pup on a 24" scale project for a customer. The pup dimensions look to be correct. The string hole spacing match some of the bridgeplates I use but are off maybe 1/64" on some others. Not enough to stop the job for sure. I think it lines up with Fender plates best. Has a center line etched on both sides. It is the same thickness as my bearing and leaves no room for error. All in all it got the job done and it looks professional so if you want your job to look like a pro did it, this template will do the trick.

Pretty good

These templates are pretty decent, however, they're a little thin and slightly oversized. The oversize is to account for variation between individual instruments, which is understandable. They could be a little thicker though.

Too thin.

Relatively good product. It is the right size for a Strat pickup and I love the lines. However, it is too thin to use a router bearing guide. I ended up grinding the brass guide to under 1/4 inch so I could use this template. Then I used this one to make a thicker template from MDF.

Excelent!

Just routed a tele pickup cavity using this template for the first time. It was perfect! It's probably a good idea to make your templates on MDF using this ones, as others say, but if you're careful I don't think there should be any problem.

I've used other templates from Stew-mac and I have been very pleased so far. This one is no different. Take your time and you should have no problems!

melted

It gets a F for durability, as for the cut and finish of the product it was great. I used the plastic single coil pickup routing jig and it melted using the plunge 0583 routing bit with doubled up bearings and messed up a guitar that I'm building. I am very upset to say the least. I was going to leave open pickup cavities with no pick guard but that is now changed. I normally use wood templates for plunging that I have made for the basses I build. My suggestion is to use the plastic template to make a template out of some leftover hardwood laying around to use on your guitar. I have another suggestion for Stew Mac is to have them CNC'ed in aluminum, hardwood or something that isn't going to melt.
