Jazz Bass Pickup Routing Templates

About This Item

Transparent acrylic templates to rout for Jazz Bass® pickup.

Laser-cut for precise edges: Our routing templates are laser-cut for smooth edged precision, and centerlines are laser-etched when needed for correct placement.

Our 3/16" (4.76mm) transparent acrylic templates ensure proper router placement on a guitar body or pickguard, eliminate guesswork and produce cleaner results. They can be positioned with countersunk screws or double-stick tape.

Carbide-tipped Ball-bearing Router Bits are preferred for use with our templates.

These single-coil templates are also included in our Pickup/Control Cavity Routing Template Set which has ALL of our Gibson and Fender pickup routing shapes plus control cavities.

Precise, accurate CNC produced template

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The only suggestion I would make: Thicker stock (acrylic) should be used, to allow for routing of less material during the intial cut. One error in the initial startup, will damage the template, rendering it useless. From this point on, I will order 3 indivdual templates, laminate them together, and have no issues. At least 1/2 inch thickness is suggested.

Works, but careful not to melt

By

The template works fine, but the plastic will melt if the bearing of the router bit stays in one place too long. I made wood templates from these plastics ones, which allows for a longer lasting template.

too big a gap for me

(Customer's Reviews)

they are good quality, and definitely fit the pups but placing my stewmac pups in them I have 1mm from pup to template all around
under a pickguard that wouldn't be a problem but for me thats to big
especially the bridge on a in my case salmon pink bass would look bad imho
I will use them to make myself a smaller one
at least I expected them to pit the stewmac pups

Really nice

By
(Customer's Reviews)

Very nice routing template, well made as usually with Stewmac.
Just a little negative comment : the small router bit with ball bearing you provide for this kind of job doesnt' match exactly the angles (router bit and ball bearing diameters is a bit larger than the corner of the template so the result doesn't match exactly the template).
But it's not a real issue. The pickup fit tightly in the cavity.

Good Template

By
(Customer's Reviews)

The rout was crisp and clean and the gap between pickup cover and rout was minimal, much less than some of the recent Fenders I've seen in the shops. Butting the two templates together with the centreline gives you 4" from centre of pickup to centre of pickup, which just happens to be the 70's J spacing, which is very handy and makes life easy.

Utterly destroyed by router bearing

By
(Customer's Reviews)

I tried both of my trusty Stew Mac template router bits (1/2" and 3/8" bearings) with this jazz bass pickup template and both of their bearings quickly melted right in letting the cutter chew far into the edges. This of course ruined the template and, luckily, only a piece of mdf - not my bass I've been working on for months! This template was brand new just out of the mail.

I've used a few other Stew Mac router templates in the past and this never happened.. did they use a lower grade plastic by accident?

Anyway, I put this review here to warn you to try the template on scrap first because you may well destroy your guitar if you trust the template.

Perfect fit

As long as you use the right bits these are the best way to rout out pickup cavities.
