Acoustic Neck Joint Routing Templates

We developed these templates for cutting accurate neck joints when used with our Neck Joint Router Bits.

The templates are made of extra-thick acrylic for sturdiness, and they're clear for easy alignment. Available for a Martin-style dovetail, or for a straight mortise and tenon.

Templates are 3/8" (9.53mm) thick clear acrylic, and 7-3/4" x 10" (196.85mm x 254.00mm).

Each set includes:
• Template for routing the neck heel
• Template for a matching neck block joint
• Instructions and plans for a simple wooden jig to hold the neck or body in position while routing
• Hardware to clamp template to the wooden jig that you make

I have used the dovetail template for years and it has been a real workhorse. I recently purchased the mortise and tenon and it is also great!

These are great templates, but a little pricey. now I need the mortise and tenon set.

Poorly designed

I just used the tenon template for my first time, thankfully on scrap. Firstly, the jig plans are not designed to allow you to adjust the angle of your neck joint, leaving a lot of work to set the neck. No problem, I designed my own. What really upset me was they didn't account for the added thickness that using a guide bushing would make. I would either have to cut all of the mortise and tenon in one go, or adjust the neck and body in the jig after every cut to lower the depth, making it nearly impossible to get an exact cut again. If you try and use a guide bushing in your router (like I did) it will leave your mortise way too narrow for the tenon. There is tenon is approximately .060" narrower than the mortise, barely equaling the thickness of the wall of my guide bushings. Add that thickness four times (one on each side of each template) and your now looking at a difference of over 1/8", requiring a lot of work. Save yourself the money and make your own jigs and templates!
