Still too wide

I use a lot of Hot Rod truss rods (Viacali Guitars), and believe that it's important for the truss rod to fit SNUGLY in the slot in order to minimize any possibility of rattles. I have always used a 3/16" router bit, and taken multiple passes, to accomplish this.

After seeing all of these 5 star reviews, I tried this router bit. The slot it cuts is still too loose, IMO. The router bit is 0.225", exactly as described. The problem is that the brass blocks at the ends of the truss rod are 0.217", and the outer diameter of the red bars are 0.212".

I will keep on using my 0.188" router bit, even though it takes twice as many passes as this one.

If used properly, it works really good.

Should be in your shop.

I have installed a number of Hot Rod truss rods using a 1/4 inch router bit. It will work but this bit is high quality and the truss rod fits much, much, better.

Actually worth the extra

I was using a 1/4" single flute bit before, but this is necessary if you make more than 2 guitars. Cuts very nice and clean, and no need to silicone the excess and all that mess. First use was on solid indian rosewood and it cut like butta'!

Great router bit

I purchased the Hot Rod router bit in conjunction with a Hot Rod for my first full build. It couldn't have been any easier to route the truss rod slot. The rod fits perfectly without any rattle or unnecessary play. Measure multiple times and cut in multiple passes and you'll be doing this in your sleep.

Exact cut

This bit cuts to the exact width needed to fit a Stew-Mac Hot Rod into a guitar neck. I was able to use this bit on my router table. Set up and execution was easy as pie. Make sure your fence set up is right and do the cut in multiple passes.

Hot rod truss rods fit perfect when using this bit. Thanks Stewmac.

Worked good, use correctly.

This blade worked fine and cut my solid rosewood neck great... except that I tried to run it through the router table the wrong way. I had a fake maple skunk stripe on the back, and to keep consistent with which edge was against the fence, I ran it backwards. Don't recommend that. Otherwise, great.

Flawless router bit for the job!

Perfect bit for the job. Two passes and I had my channel cut perfectly for the Hot Rod, and it sits extremely well in it. Like everyone has said, this bit is INCREDIBLY sharp. Be careful when removing the plastic over the tip of it. Looking forward to using this on future projects!

HIgh Quality

By
(Customer's Reviews)

There are really only two kinds of tools, quality ones and cheapo ones. These are quality and last as long as any long lasting bits I've used. No bits last forever. If I had to guess, I'd guess you could use this 50 times before you really had to get another...
