About This Item

An extractor and plug cutter that's small enough for guitar screws! A StewMac exclusive: you won't find a similar set in this small size anywhere else.

  • Extract damaged or broken tuner screws
  • Make uniformly-sized wooden plugs for plugging and redrilling
The complete kit includes:

Screw extractor
Our tubular steel screw extractor works with your drill. Hardened teeth bore around a broken tuner-mounting screw (3/32" maximum diameter) to capture and remove it.

Plug cutter
Use this custom tool in your drill press to make a 3/16"-diameter wooden plug, a perfect match to fill the hole made by the extractor or the drill bit.

3/16" drill bit
To repair stripped screw holes, use this steel twist bit to match your plugs.

Alignment guide
Clamp this clear acrylic guide in place to help keep your tools right on center, and protect the instrument.

Exceptional tool, great video

(Customer's Reviews)

This worked well on a guitar bridge screw that snapped off a mid 80's strat style that had never seen a wipe down. I now will use Dan's tips from the vid to seat a couple necks properly. Exceptional kit, must have for this work.

Does exactly what it says on the tin.

This is an excellent piece of kit. Quality steel used and comes the go to tool for extracting machine head screws but is great for plugging also. A must for any professional guitar tech/luthier.

Works like a champ, even for the inexperienced.

(Customer's Reviews)

I have to admit I approached drilling holes in my Heritage Les Paul ($$$$$) with a good deal of anxiety. I've built pinewood derby cars before, so I'm not a complete rookie, but such detailed work on something so expensive? Well, taking my time, it went extremely well. Mahogany doesn't drill as quickly as pine, so you need to be patient, but everything came out nice and straight, fitting well, thanks to the kit. One tip I might add -- don't assume that you need to drill as deep as the tip of the broken screw for it to come out. Mine came out with much shallower drilling. Drilled my plug out of an inexpensive piece of mahogany I picked up and now I have a good, professional repair.
