Carbide Downcut Inlay Router Bits

About This Item

The best for inlay work and saddle slotting!
Solid carbide lasts far longer than steel, and reverse spiral flutes cut downward for cleaner, "no fuzz" edges in routed cavities.

To use our 1/8"-shank bits in your laminate trimmer's 1/4" collet, see our #5246 Adapter Collet.

Length 1-1/2" (38.10mm)
Shank diameter 1/8" (3.18mm)

Use the larger bits for removing wood in the middle of your inlay work, and save the fine bits for the fine details. The fine detail bits are fragile, for routing intricate details only.

Item Primary use Width of cut Depth of cut
5154 For inlay routing and bridge saddle slots 1/8" (0.1250", 3.18mm) 1/2" (0.375", 9.53mm)
5153 For inlay routing and bridge saddle slots 3/32" (0.0938", 2.38mm) 1/4" (0.250", 6.35mm)

downcut router bits make a huge difference in tear out when working with softer woods.
could not be happier with the results using these bits.

I had put off buying this bit for years and just got cheap ones. There's a huge difference! They cut so cleanly and faster because they don't clog up from just burning wood. Now I want the set!

Precision router base w/ custom Foredom hand piece

By

When the precision router base is used with the customized Foredom hand piece & the downward cutting inlay router bits the quality of the inlay designs increased greatly. One can more easily created inlay design cavities that have one consistent depth with clean crisp edges. I also recommend mixing the crushed inlay material with a small amount of jeweler's water clear 330 two part epoxy & then add the crushed inlay material mixed together with the 330 two part epoxy into the inlay design cavity. This method eliminates voids in the inlay material & it also produces much better professional looking looking crushed material inlay designs when compared to the other method where one adds the dry inlay material into cavity & then add a CA glue onto the dry inlay material.

I bought this to rout the saddle slot a little deeper for a thinline acoustic pickup. It was the perfect tool.
