Ball Bearing Router Bits

About This Item

Special bits for templates! Extra-long carbide-tipped router bits produce clean, precise body cavities when used with our templates.

The ball-bearing guide matches the cutting diameter, and the long shank allows multiple-pass routing for deep cavities.

The 1/2" diameter bit is recommended for most of your routing chores, and comes with 1 bearing. Use the 3/8" cutter only for routing corners that need the tighter radius, it comes with 2 bearings.

Sold individually or SAVE when you buy the set of both router bits.

Shank diameter: 1/4" (6.35mm)
Cutting height: 1/2" (12.7mm)

A heat-resistant sleeve (not shown) holds the bearing in position. We recommend stacking an extra bearing on the shank for deep cavities, and use the 3/8" bit only for routing corners.

Tip: We recommend that you change the position of stacked bearings on the router bit's shank every time your re-chuck in the bit into your router. This will greatly extend the life of the bearings and reduces the risk of a bearing "blow-out."

Well Worth the Purchase

By

These router bits cut smoothly and accurately. Highly recommended. Stewmac shipped them promptly and they arrived quickly. They even come with a heat resistant sleeve to fit on the shank to keep the bearing from riding up. Note: I would *highly* recommend you use the sleeve. If the bearing rides up the shank, your project is ruined. If I had to offer one criticism, I wish the cutting edge length was longer (hence, the 4 star rating, rather than five). These router bits are excellent for routing 3/4" MDF templates, but I found the cutting edge length to be too short to completely rout a 1 3/4" body blank to shape. Overall, I'm satisfied with these router bits.

Great router bit

I bought the 3/8" bit and this works very well. It cuts very clean and the length of the bit is perfect for my neck pockets and pickup routs. Another great addition from StewMac!

Indispensable for shallow precision routing

By
(Customer's Reviews)

These router bits work great, the quality of the cuts are excellent. The 3/8 bit is especially handy for tight corners such as pickup routs, plus shallow profile means you can use thinner templates as well as take less material per pass, further increasing the cut quality. These are unique bits that you can"t find anywhere else, happy stew mac makes them!

Smooth, excellent bits

One of the few places I could find short bits, i was a little apprehensive about the price. But needing these, took the gamble and it's money SO well spent! Smooth cuts and bearing, these are a must have for pickup routing etc.
Wish I had gotten earlier...

Locking ring wanted

Could wish for a proper locking ring on the shank. Otherwise ok.

Just what the doctor ordered.

I purchased both the half inch and 3/8 inch bits. They cut very clean. I would order an extra set of bearings. I found that two bearing stacked and the plastic sleeve was just the right combination I needed.
