Ball Bearing Router Bits

About This Item

Special bits for templates! Extra-long carbide-tipped router bits produce clean, precise body cavities when used with our templates.

The ball-bearing guide matches the cutting diameter, and the long shank allows multiple-pass routing for deep cavities.

The 1/2" diameter bit is recommended for most of your routing chores, and comes with 1 bearing. Use the 3/8" cutter only for routing corners that need the tighter radius, it comes with 2 bearings.

Sold individually or SAVE when you buy the set of both router bits.

Shank diameter: 1/4" (6.35mm)
Cutting height: 1/2" (12.7mm)

A heat-resistant sleeve (not shown) holds the bearing in position. We recommend stacking an extra bearing on the shank for deep cavities, and use the 3/8" bit only for routing corners.

Tip: We recommend that you change the position of stacked bearings on the router bit's shank every time your re-chuck in the bit into your router. This will greatly extend the life of the bearings and reduces the risk of a bearing "blow-out."

Nice, but not ideal

I bought the 1/2" bit to cut Telecaster cavities. Then I had to buy an additional, longer bit, to complete the job, as this wasn't long enough for the deep control cavity cut. The bit I bought was a Freud that stays sharp longer; cuts from 1/2" to 1-1/2" deep (starting out with a 3/4" MDF template); it has a standard locking collar, not that cheesy plastic tubing; and it was only $20!

I should have just bought the Freud, and been done.

Holding up great so far. I've done about 7 telecaster bodies and the bits
and bearings are holding up well. (But now that I've written this they will
now break). And it only took 2 days to receive the bits after I ordered them.

Much better than the cheaper bits I got at Home Depot. Cleaner cuts, less grabbing.

Great tool

The bit worked as it should. It was sharp and accurate. I do wish the bearing had a lockings sleeve above it like most pattern bits have. The heat resistants sleeve did work without any issues other than the first time I cut the sleeve a little too short and the bearing rode up the shaft a little. I just cut a longer piece and had no issues.

I would recommend buying two bearings. It did help to have two when I was using the pattern.

The 1/2" bit worked great for pickups and the neck pocket with a tight tolerance around the joint.

The product was shipped quicker than expected too which was a nice surprise. Thank you StewMac!

Easy as pie!

I've never used a router or template of any kind in my life. Aligning the template was easy. I was just cleaning out what appeared to be a free-hand route on a MIM tele for the bridge. Worked perfectly to provide a clean finished look and feel.
