Kerfing Clamps, Set of 10

About This Item

Small and strong, perfect for gluing kerfed linings.

StewMac’s Production Manager, Todd Sams, swears by these clamps for building his Sams Guitars. "They're stronger than other spring clamps, and way better than clothespins," he says.

The jaws fit over angled kerfed linings perfectly, and fit most curved/reverse kerfing, too. The strong grip keeps its tension and won't twist like cheaper versions.

We recommend one clamp every 1 to 2 inches, so it takes 50 to 60 clamps to glue the top or back kerfings on a 000 or Dreadnought.

  • 2" long, 1/2" wide (50.8mm x 12.7mm)
  • Jaws open to 11/16" (17.46mm)
  • Set of 10 clamps

Have you tried similar clamps and the protective rubber tip eventually slides off? Our clamps have a hole in the metal tip so the dipped covering flows through and the tip stays on!

Stronger than they look—if the metal part of the clamp contacts wood, it could leave a light indent. Generally this doesn't matter, since this wood is removed while sanding and when you rout for binding. Put binding tape where the metal meets the wood to avoid this altogether.

Perfect for clamping kerfing. Just the right amount of pressure.

very convenient

Love the size of these little clamps! Perfect for kerfing, but there should be a number of uses for these. Also, they don't take up much space in the clamp bin..

Best I've used for kerfing

By

I read reviews about the clamps marking the surface- which they do to varying degrees- but for kerfing I found that if I'm going to bind the guitar the marks are all where the binding is going. I actually use a piece of plastic binding material I keep just for this purpose as a cawl under the clamps on the outside of the guitar. Works perfectly and there are no marks. I highly recommend this product. Joe Walsh JW Custom Guitars

Pass me more clamps!!!

I purchased to use on a project archtop. The original delicate finish was a concern. I followed the advice from another reviewer. I lined the outside edge with thick scrap foamy material.

Worked perfect! No dents.

I purchased 50 for this project. Not necessary, but next time around I will get 10 to 20 more to fill in the gaps.

I am a new Luther and I am building my collection of tools slowly but surely. Purchased these clamps and hope to get years of use out of them. Always have a good experience with Stewmac.

Kerfing Clamp Tension

By

Verified Buyer

9 of 30 of the Kerfing Clamps I ordered had significantly less tension and out of those 9 clamps, 3 I can't use because of their further decreased tension.

Great, but...

They're too strong and let dents in the wood. I solved the problem using them with the 1274 rubber binding band to protect the wood. That way they do a great job!!

Not quite...

These are well made little clamps, and I use them frequently. Unfortunately, they are not well suited for their intended use as "kerf clamps". As others have noted, the clamps dent the wood. I'd definitely buy more if the jaw were redesigned.

Clamps leave crimp marks in lining and sides

By

I bought 60 of these clamps and used them for the first time this weekend to install traditional mahagony kerfed lining into mahogany sides. When I removed them, I discovered almost all the clamps had left dents in the surface of the lining and in the outside surface of the sides. The problem is that the plastic coating over the tips does not extend far enough back from the tips and leaves two bare metal edges that dig into the wood under clamping pressure. I will not be using them again. A waste of $60. It's a shame because the clamps are easy to use, they are the right size, and have the right clamping pressure.

No messing with rubberbands that break and render themselves useless. Holds nicely and looks good as an extra bonus!
