Tuner Pin Drill Jig

About This Item

Aligns your hand drill for accurate tuning machine mounting pin holes.

This anodized aluminum jig accurately locates mounting pin holes in the back of a guitar headstock. Use it before drilling for the alignment pins found on many modern enclosed tuning machines. These tuners don't use the traditional exposed tuner mounting screw, but rather a hidden pin on the underside of the tuner housing.

It keeps your hand drill perpendicular for accuracy, and works for left or right-side tuners. You can position single-pin Schaller tuners, two-pin Schallers, one-pin Sperzels, and Fender locking tuners. The jig fits into the peghole with a self-centering bushing and thumbscrew for quick and easy attachment. Instructions included.

This jig is designed for use with a No. 38 (.101") drill bit. Measure the height of the alignment pins on your tuners and drill the holes to the appropriate depth.

A great tool for a beginner like me

I bought this tool to help me install Fender tuning pegs on a tele-style neck. This jig made drilling the 12 required holes easy and precise.
Be sure that you use a #38 drill bit for the pin holes. 3/32" was too small; I knew better than to try a 7/64". My local hardware store had one left in stock.
Tip: per the instructions, I marked the depth of the drill at 11/16". I used teflon plumbers tape wrapped a few times around the bit, and it held solid for all 12 holes.
Great tool! I'm afraid that without it I might have messed up a really nice neck.

Professional tool equals a professional result, I did a set of 2 pin tuners about a month ago on a fender squire headstock without your tool and I got through it after grinding down a few of the pins and a little language not to be used in mixed company but it did work out ok but this project I used your 2 pin drill jig and what a nice professional job, I'm glad to have it with my other guitar tools and feel it was worth every dime.

Installed a set of Fender locking tuners on a "Squier" strat. They had the same style holes but did not line up with the new tuners. The jig worked perfectly, about a 30 minute job total.

Great tool. After I used this it, I figured out how It can be improved. To use this tool you must measure carefully. If you get two, and cut the end of at least one of them, then screw them together with a metal strip, it becomes self aligning. Plus you can drill two at a time, really saves time with six in line. 3D modeling is my thing, so here's a mockup. Hint Hint.
